With a heavy heart we announce the passing of our sister, Yolanda Hernandez. She was a beloved, Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt and loyal Friend to many. Our beautiful Sister passed away on May 22, 2025. Yolanda was born in Fresno, California to Margarita and Jose Concepcion Hernandez on August 2,1956.
She was the youngest of the girls, four sisters and two brothers. As a young child, Yolanda grew up in Clovis, California, then Mom and Dad moved to Oxnard where she dedicated her life to serving people. Yolanda began her career as a Social Worker at Camarillo State Hospital, where she was respected by her colleagues and respected and loved by her clients. After the hospital closure in June of 1996, Yolanda continued her work at Ventura County Social Services Agency. Here she was serving in IHSS (InHome Support Services) department. Over a 25-year career she touched countless lives, through her compassion and dedication, retiring in June of 2023.
Yolanda was a passionate admirer of Frida Kahlo, and the Wizard of Oz. Yolanda filled her home with rich colors, hand-painted pots, artwork that celebrated culture, strength, and family. Her walls were not only decorated; they told a story. Her greatest masterpieces however were her family. Yolanda loved being around children. You could always count on her to always have a little toy in her purse to share with grandchildren, nieces and nephews and she loved seeing the excitement in their faces.
Yolanda was dedicated to her faith and faithfully worshiped our Lord at Oxnard Church of the Nazarene. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and so many unforgettable memories.
Yolanda leaves her legacy with her daughter Annette Brian, husband Michael Brian, granddaughters Madison and Morgan, siblings Mona Knipper, Maria (Bob) Herrera, Rosa Rodriguez, Jose (Darlene) Hernandez, Fernando (Myriam) Hernandez, and numerous nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by our parents Margarita Hernandez and Jose Concepcion Hernandez, brother-in-law Reggie Knipper and her beloved dog Porky.
"God looked around his garden
And he found an empty place.
He then looked down upon his earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best,
He knew that you were suffering
He knew that you were in pain
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So, he closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered, "Peace be Thine"
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home"

Yolanda, my good friend and designated daughter through our long history as friends, l´m sorry that I missed your Going Home Celebration. Maybe because I wanted to remember you the way you were during our long friendship and not your present state. As I walk through Memory Lane, I recall the day we met through my Wife, Elsie and Daughter, Gina because you had that warm feeling and radiant smile on your face. And throughout that friendship you´ve shown that smile to everyone throughout your entire career. It was a special gift that God gave you because in your profession people had to be at ease and felt welcome when they came to visit your organization for assistance to make existence easier for themselves and family members. You´ve kept that warmth and great smile not only throughout your career but even after you retired. I know that it continued in your Christian walk with your Church Family. When you got sick, Your Heavenly Father didn´t want you to suffer so he sent His Angels to bring you home. As I sit here writing my farewell tribute to you "My Friend and My Loving Daughter " I reminded of a song we sang in our Church, "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot coming for to carry me Home. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot coming for to carry me home. I looked over yonder and what did I see coming for to carry me home, A Band of Angels coming after me, coming for to carry me home". That was God´s way of bringing you home to be with Him and your family and friends. You left lots of family members and friends here and like me, we will always remember you and feel Blessed to have had you in our lives, Rest in Peace my sweet friend and precious daughter, JayJay

Yolanda I´m missing you so much. It was such a fun decade when we worked together in our classroom at Camarillo State Hospital. You were tough, kind, and delightful to work with. We had such great times with Esther, Amy, Jill, April, Karen, in fact, you were one of the founders of "the Amigas".... Other memorable times were the Friday after work movies, the grapevine drive to the snow, and the time we hung out and built a tree house for Nettie. Love you Yolanda, more than you´ll ever know.... -Rick

My heartfelt condolences, prayers and love goes out to Yolanda´s entire family. Yolanda and I became friends when she and my daughter Gina started working together at Camarillo State Hospital. As the years went by our friendship blossomed into a mother and daughter relationship. Yolanda was such a blessing to know. I will forever remember our Sunday after church lunches. Rest in the arms of the God my sweet daughter Yolanda. I will forever love you.
