Yong Yol Jo, a man of intelligence, gentleness, and analytical prowess, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Yorba Linda, California, at the age of 94. Born on August 21, 1930, in Korea, Yong Yol led a life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his community.
Yong Yol's formative years were spent in Korea, where he completed his education, culminating in a degree from Seoul University. His passion for knowledge and helping others guided him into a career in medical research, with a focus on veterinary medicine. For over a quarter of a century, he worked tirelessly to advance the field, contributing to the health and well-being of animals and, by extension, those who cared for them.
The love story of Yong Yol and Hui Yong Chung began with a family introduction, blossoming into a partnership that would span more than 65 years. Their marriage was a testament to their shared values and commitment to one another. Together, they welcomed two daughters into the world: Sue Kim and Jenny Jo. The family bond only grew stronger with the addition of sons-in-law Brian and Chris Lee, and the joy of three granddaughters, Sharron Kim, Elaine Lee, and Aimee Lee.
In pursuit of a brighter future for his daughters and their education, Yong Yol made the bold decision to move his family to the United States. This marked the beginning of a new chapter, one in which he would embrace the role of an entrepreneur. As the proprietor of a dry cleaning business, he invested an additional decade of his life, ensuring that his family was well-established and that his daughters had every opportunity to succeed in their new homeland.
Yong Yol's retirement was characterized by the simple pleasures he cherished most. He was an avid ocean fisherman, finding solace and joy in the rhythm of the sea. But his greatest contentment came from the time spent at home with his beloved family. His presence was a quiet one, his words measured and kind. He believed in speaking only when necessary, and when he did, his words were imbued with wisdom and positivity.
Those who knew Yong Yol will remember him for his gentle demeanor and the thoughtful, analytical approach he brought to every aspect of his life. He was a man who preferred to let his actions speak louder than his words, earning the respect and admiration of all who had the privilege of crossing his path.
Yong Yol's legacy is one of unwavering integrity, love, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a family who reveres him, a community that respects him, and a world that has been made better by his contributions.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Hui Yong Jo; his loving daughters, Sue Kim, with her husband Brian, and Jenny Jo, with her husband Chris Lee; and his cherished granddaughters, Sharron Kim, Elaine Lee, and Aimee Lee. Each family member carries with them the lessons of compassion, perseverance, and humility that Yong Yol exemplified throughout his life.
As we bid farewell to Yong Yol Jo, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey completed with honor, and a spirit that will continue to inspire. Though he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the lasting impact of his life's work.
Yong was cremated and ashes scattered at sea by his family in the very waters he loved to fish.
