York Vin Lay, was born on June 27, 1963, in Fayetteville, North Carolina to his parents, Cora Elise and Willie Hines Lay Sr. He was the third child born in the family and was raised with his siblings, Kevin, Hines and Jeane. As a child. York was quiet and jovial. He always had a smile on his face and was very observant.
York was educated through the Denver Public School system, where he attended South High School. These created a solid blueprint for the future. York was a hardworking landscaper and construction worker whose dedication did not go unnoticed. He was a consummate professional that always performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. He instilled this same mentality in his family.
To know York was to love him, he was particularly known for his loving nature, often expressing his gratitude by saying, "I Am Blessed and Highly Favored." This motto reflected the appreciation he had for life.
York, met a lovely lady named Tonni Jennings in 2015. The began dating and were married on March 19, 2018. They built many wonderful moments together. York was the proud father of Brittanni, Cora, Johnathan, Shavonna, and Deon. He prided himself on being a supportive father that would be there for his family every step of the way. He gained an additional source of joy with the addition of his grandchildren, Tracy, Joshia, Treithe, Raymond, Mariah, Maylaha, and Michael. They fondly remember the joy he brought into their lives, from walking the dog, to sharing laughter over various activities. His love for his family was evident in every interaction and memorable moment he created.
York also enjoyed spending time with his friends, Ronnie Hancock, Bruce Walker, Richard Wright, and Travis Moore. These were life long friends of his that he could always count on.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cora Elise Lay and Willie Hines Lay, Sr., as well as his brother, Hines Lay. Their memory lives on through the legacy of love and compassion he has left behind.
York is survived by his loving sister, Jeane Dolby, and his brother, Kevin Lay. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember him for his warm personality and the happiness he spread to those around him.
He will truly be missed.
