In Loving Memory of Yvetta Block
The world grew quieter on September 12, 2025, as the beautiful Miss Yvetta "Vetta"
Block, a woman of unmatched strength, grace, and love, was called home. Her life was a
radiant example of faith, family, and compassion, and her memory will forever be a treasure
to all who knew her.
She was born on February 3rd in
Kansas City, Kansas, to loving parents Sammie
and William. As the eldest of three children and the first of eleven grandchildren, she
naturally stepped into a role of leadership and care from the very beginning. She attended
Fairfax Elementary, continued to Eisenhower Middle School, and proudly graduated from
Wyandotte High School. Her school years were marked by the same warmth, wit, and
resilience that would define her throughout her life.
A loving, strong, and deeply nurturing woman, she had a tender spirit and
unmatched hospitality. Her home was a haven and filled with the aroma of home-cooked
meals, baked treats, and the kind of peace that only she could provide. Whether through a
warm meal or a listening ear, she made everyone feel welcome and cared for.
She had a gift for solving problems before they were even spoken, always attuned to
the needs of others. Her early career in healthcare reflected her compassion, as she
worked as a CNA at Bethany Hospital, where she offered comfort and companionship to
patients-often while navigating her own health challenges with quiet strength.
One of her most cherished roles was working alongside her mother in the bakery at
Price Chopper, where their shared love for baking created sweet memories and lasting
bonds. She later became a driver for railroad crews at Renzenberger, continuing her search
for meaningful work.
In 2004, she found her calling as a deputy sheriff with the Wyandotte County Sheriff's
Office. She wore her badge with pride and honor, serving her community with integrity and
heart. Though she retired in 2007 for health reasons, the impact of her service and the pride
she carried never faded.
She was witty, wise, and wonderfully honest-able to speak truth with a light touch
that made even the hardest truths easier to bear. Her humor was a gift, her timing
impeccable, and her love always present in every word she spoke.
Her strength was nothing short of extraordinary. She overcame every obstacle
placed before her, defying expectations with quiet determination-from becoming a mother
to returning to work despite medical advice. She met life's challenges head-on, never losing
her grace or her grit.
Her faith was her foundation. She prayed with such conviction and tenderness that
anyone listening felt as though God Himself had heard. Her belief carried her through every
season, and her prayers carried others with her.
She gave birth to her best friend, her eldest daughter, Brittany, in 1989, and lovingly
welcomed her "baby" Necey in 1991. Her devotion to her girls was unwavering and evident
in every detail of their lives. She made motherhood look effortless: her daughters never
missed a homemade meal, never felt the weight of her storms, and always received the
very best care.
As a grandmother to five cherished grandchildren, she shone even brighter. They
were her light on the darkest days, and she reflected on that light with equal brilliance. She
nurtured unique bonds with each of them, honoring their individuality and creating lasting
memories filled with love, laughter, and wisdom. Her gift for creating peace, harmony, and
unconditional love within her family is a legacy that will be hard to match, but she knew she
had instilled greatness in her daughters and grandchildren. They will carry her torch proudly,
guided by the love she so generously gave.
She leaves behind her two devoted daughters, Brittany & Shanese, two loving
brothers, John & Uyi, and five treasured grandchildren, Karter, Antonieo Jr., Eryn,
Samieyah, & Brayden. She is reunited in peace with her beloved mother, Sammie, and
father William, her cherished grandmother Elizabeth, and two dear aunts, Erma & Emma,
who preceded her in death.
Her love was a gift. Her life, a blessing. Her memory, a treasure.
