Yvette Marie King, 58 years young, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away peacefully in her home with her husband by her side on May 17, 2023, from an 8-year fight with mesothelioma lung cancer. She is predeceased by her brother Dilbert Alva, her mother, Frances Miller, and her stepfather Norman Miller. She is left behind by her Husband, Marvin J. King, Son William I Johnson, Daughter Lillian R. King, father William J. Hernandez, sister Corina Vallencourt, sister April Schlafmann, sister Fidela Bach (Jim Bach), brother Nathan Granados, and 4 grandchildren (Lyric, Nohlan, Selena, and Julianna).
Yvette a devoted Christian, talented artist, athlete, and accomplished runner who completed the Philadelphia Marathon, the Virginia Beach Rock and Roll Half Marathon, 5 Army 10-mile races, and the Bay Bridge 10K race. Yvette never complained of her illness and amazed the medical community with how she pushed back and maintained her resistance to cancer's adverse effects through a strong faith in Jesus Christ and an indomitable spirit. A living celebration of thankfulness was held in her honor on March 25, 2023, from an inspiring and spirited contingent of family, friends, co-workers, and medical staff. Yvette loved the church, where she was involved in several ministries, including the AWANA children's ministry and summer camps, where she loved to play and teach the kids basketball and other group activities. Yvette was a Sacramento, California native who grew up in Turtle Lake, ND. In 1993 she migrated to Maryland to work as a graphic designer for the FBI. She completed her successful career with Bowhead Mission Solutions and The Department of Transportation (DOT), where she worked for 24 years, and retired on May 2, 2023, due to her progressing illness. Yvette was all about family supporting each other and always preached that philosophy. Yvette lived a very blessed life, all while making a real difference in the lives of others. We love you, Mom (Sweetie), and although you've earned your wings and now serve a higher purpose, you are still so very missed.
