Yvonne E. Coohey, 78, of Dubuque and formerly of West Des Moines, passed away on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, August 23rd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church – Fillmore. A mass of Christian burial will
immediately follow visitation at 11:00 am with Fr. Michael Schueller presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Yvonne was born in Dubuque, Iowa on July 7, 1947, the daughter of Francis and Mary (Rea) Coohey. Yvonne graduated from the Visitation Catholic High School, Clarke University, and later she earned her Master's degree at the Aquinas Institute of Theology. She also graduated from Des Moines Area Community College as a paralegal.
Yvonne worked at Aviva Life and Annuity Company in West Des Moines. Yvonne was an avid reader, she loved to learn, and spend time with her friends and family. She enjoyed collecting Native American art, socks, pocket knives, and colorful crystals. She was very spiritual and loved to connect with nature. She was a football fan, especially if the Kansas City Chiefs were playing. She used her artistic side to create greeting cards to share with those she loved.
Yvonne is survived by a brother, Jim Coohey, (Betty) of Dubuque, sisters, Kathy Sherman (Robert) of Springfield, IL, and Phyllis Steffen of Dubuque, and a brother-in-law, Dennis Charipar, of Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Mary (Rea) Coohey, her brothers Joseph Coohey, Robert Coohey, her sisters, Marie Lindauer and Eleanor Charipar, sister-in-law, Mary Coohey, and brothers-in-law, Edwin Lindauer and Elmer Steffen.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers at Hospice of Dubuque, those who came to visit her during her last few weeks to make her feel loved and cared for. We also are grateful to her wonderful, caring friends in Des Moines.
