Yvonne M. Goble
of Nichols, NY
Yvonne M. Goble, a beacon of kindness and warmth, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, in Ithaca, NY, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Litchfield, PA, on June 11, 1938, Yvonne's journey through life was marked by her loving nature, her friendly demeanor, and her unwavering kindness to all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will continue to inspire and comfort her family and friends.
Raised in Nichols, NY, Yvonne was a proud graduate of the Tioga Central Class of 1956, where she formed friendships and values that lasted a lifetime. Her professional journey was marked by her role as a beloved secretary at the Owego Free Academy Guidance office. Her desk, always adorned with a candy jar, became a symbol of her warm and welcoming nature, making everyone's day brighter. Yvonne later served as a dedicated secretary for the NYS Division of Social Security and Disability Services, where her compassion and commitment to helping others shone through her work every day. Yvonne's gentle presence and willingness to listen made her not just an employee but a friend to many.
Beyond her professional achievements, Yvonne was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her daughters, Harmony J. Ayers-Friedlander and her husband William, and Melody J. Ayers Simmons. Her legacy continues through her ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who will miss her deeply. She was a caring sister to Elaine Goble Kipp and Carol (Don) Densmore MacKenzie and a cherished aunt to her nieces and nephews: Brian, Victoria, Michael, and Valorie. Yvonne was predeceased by her parents, Delos and Stella Kathryn (Nichols) Goble, whose love and values she carried forward throughout her life.
Yvonne's love for life was evident in her many interests. She treasured trips with her girls to the ocean, exploring the wonders of Charleston, NC, and delighting in the festivities of the Lobster Festival in Maine. An avid gardener, she saw the beauty in nature and nurtured friendships with the same care and attention she gave to her plants. Her strong faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through years of devoted Christian ministry in the churches she attended. Her love for music was evident in her beautiful singing voice, which graced many a church service, uplifting the spirits of all who heard her. Yvonne's appreciation for God's glory on earth was reflected in her love for reading and the joy she found in her family. Her spirit resonated the scriptures from Proverbs 3:5-6
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday, February 24th from 2 – 3pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A service of remembrance will follow at 3 pm. Yvonne will be laid to rest in the spring with a graveside service at the Nichols Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting her guestbook at www.sutfinfuneralchapel.com As we bid farewell to our mom, grandma and friend, we celebrate a life lived with love at its core. She was a woman who personified the best of human virtues-loving, kind, and friendly. Her memory will be cherished, and her presence will be missed, yet the beauty of her spirit will continue to bloom in the hearts of those she touched. We take comfort in knowing that Yvonne's journey has not ended but has simply taken a different path, one that is paved with the love and memories she has left behind. Her life was a beautiful story of compassion and connection, a narrative that will be lovingly retold for generations to come.
