Zachary Gates Obituary

Zachary Loflin Gates
July 14, 1999 - December 28, 2023
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Zachary Loflin Gates. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend who left us too soon, on December 28, 2023, at the young age of 24. At that moment, Zachary encountered Jesus, no longer by faith but by sight.
Zachary was born on July 14, 1999, in Memphis, TN. He grew up as a bright and spirited child and attended Bartlett City Schools. Zachary had a passion for computers, coding, and songwriting, and he won awards for his artwork and academics. He loved playing basketball and participated in many recreational sports as he grew. Zachary's love for music was evident in everything he did, and he could light up a room with his smile and infectious energy.
Zachary accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of seven and was baptized at Bellevue Baptist Church. He actively participated every year in Vacation Bible School and eventually became a student leader. Throughout his growing years, he was an active handbell choir member and participated in numerous musical events at Bellevue.
Zachary's journey through life was marked by both brilliance and struggle. He wrestled with many challenges, yet his resilience in adversity was a testament to his strength. The discovery of his notes on scriptures such as Romans 8:1, Matthew 6:12, and Ephesians 1:7, in addition to many others, has brought comfort, revealing a side of Zachary that found solace in faith during his moments of contemplation.
He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Diane and Mark, his siblings, Kyle and Alexis, his loving dog, Ivy, and a community of friends and relatives touched by his warm spirit.
Zachary's life shone with moments of joy and creativity in the midst of battles. His talent for music, art, computers, and a heart full of dreams made him truly special.
A private memorial service for the family to celebrate Zachary's life will be held at a future date.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the community for their love and support during this difficult time. Zachary's memory, with all its complexity and beauty, will forever be cherished in our hearts.
Instead of flowers, donations may be sent to Life Choices of Memphis.

We met in Middle school at Appling. He was an outgoing, brilliant kid who loved computers and joking around. We'd play Xbox, ride bikes, listen to music, go thrifting around town. He was always looking for the next big thing in life. He was coding before high school, and the apps and websites he developed were near professional level. I'm sad he's gone. May he rest in peace.
