Zelda Marie Pate Barrett, 74, of Hurricane, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia on August 16, 2025 from complications associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in South Charleston, West Virginia, Zelda was the youngest daughter of the late Floyd and Mae Pate. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald "Donnie" Barrett of Hurricane, West Virginia, and brothers Harland, Marcel, Kenneth, and Dana Glen.

Zelda was a 1969 honor graduate of Hurricane High School. After high school, Zelda faithfully served her nation in the forensic identification division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. In 1972, she married the love of her life, Donald "Donnie" Barrett of Hurricane, West Virginia. Together, they shared 15 wonderful years of marriage before Donnie passed away in 1987. Zelda then reentered the workforce and later retired from USFoodService in Hurricane, West Virginia.

Zelda was a loving sister to her best friend/older sister, Sue Plumley. She was the cherished mother of George Barrett (Mendy) of Hurricane, West Virginia. She was the proud grandmother of Ethan Barrett (Hannah) of Monroeville, PA and Emma Barrett (Aaron Parker) of Hurricane, West Virginia. She was also blessed with several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews with specific affection for her niece, Charlotte Plumley Caldwell.

She was a longtime member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Zelda enjoyed volunteering at church gatherings where she served faithfully and selflessly.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to Celebration Villa of Teays Valley; CAMC General; and the Hubbard Hospice House for their compassionate care and kindness during the past days, months and years. You were each truly a blessing from God. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude for all the love, prayers, texts, and calls that helped us through this difficult time.

Visitation will be held at Allen Funeral Home on Saturday, August 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by funeral service and entombment at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House at HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387, in Zelda's memory.
