Zella Marie Bierod, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, was born on September 20, 1938, in Edmundson County, Kentucky. She passed away peacefully at her residence on January 3, 2026, at the age of 87. Zella was a dedicated lineworker for Phillip Morris for over 12 years, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to her role.
Zella was known for her unwavering kindness and selflessness, often going above and beyond for those around her. She was regarded as "the most precious person" by her many friends and family, with not a mean bone in her body. Her gentle spirit and loving nature made her beloved by all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Zella found great joy in cooking family meals and fostering connections during family gatherings. As the matriarch of her family, she played an instrumental role in bringing everyone together, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter. Zella was a devoted member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church, where her faith and community ties flourished.
Zella is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Cecil Bierod, whom she was married to for 68 years, her beloved parents, John and Myrtle Madison, siblings: Elzie, Everett, Mae, Jim, Esker, Wilbur, Raymond, Charles Oscar, Irene, Elva, Annie, and Walter along with her grandson Travis Bierod.
She leaves behind her sons, Arnold Bierod, Gary Bierod, Paul Bierod, along with his spouse Janice, and her daughter Lisa Forbes and her spouse Duane. Zella’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, including Bryan Bierod and his spouse Jennifer Keith, Christina Holsapple and her spouse Daniel, Jessica Waters, Jackie O'Bryan, Michael Bierod, Derek Forbes, Alyssa Forbes, and Cheyenne Bierod, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation at Maraman Billings Funeral Home in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, on January 11, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue on January 12, 2026, beginning at 9:00 AM, with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM, and will be officiated by Brother Daniel Ridener. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Edmundson County.
Zella Marie Bierod's life was one of compassion and love, and she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
