Visitation Thursday 2/23 at 6:00 PM in the funeral home.
Zoe Nell Wall, 2nd Lt. Reserve Nurse, passed away February 18, 2023 at the age of 101. Zoe was a retired WWII Army nurse. She was born in Cleveland, Oklahoma to Jacob Oliver and Donia Wall on April 4, 1921 in Norman, Oklahoma. Zoe was one of 4 children, Marie, Winona, Zoe, and Ira.
Zoe graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1939. Following graduation she attended Wesley Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1942. On March 2, 1943 2nd Lt. Zoe Wall reported to duty at Camp Barkeley Station Hospital, Abilene, Texas. After serving general surgical duty, Zoe left for Ft. Bliss, Texas for the assignment to the 51st General Hospital staging area. After six weeks in the staging area the nurses joined their organization in New Guinea. She continued her service working on patients directly from combat and earned her 1st Lt. When leaving New Guinea she continued her time in the Philippines. She returned home to San Francisco, February 1, 1946.
After returning home, Zoe returned to Oklahoma to reintegrate after spending time overseas. She worked for an allergist and met her forever love Edward Combs. On July 8, 1949 Zoe married Edward Combs in Winslow, Arizona. They traveled the western states while Edward worked for the Federal Aviation Administration.
In 1953 they welcomed their son Gary Philip Combs, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They continued their travels and returned back to Oklahoma to welcome their daughter Janet Marie in 1958.
They lived in Las Vegas, Nevada and upon Edward's retirement from the FAA they returned to Zoe's beloved Oklahoma.
She worked at the Bone & Joint Hospital and then Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City as a Registered Nurse during that time she made many great work friends. She was considered a very capable and compassionate nurse.
In 1974 Zoe and Edward and Janet moved to Stockton, Missouri. Zoe began working as a school nurse and quickly learned that wasn't a good fit for her. When Stockton opened their nursing home Zoe took that opportunity and worked as an RN at the Stockton Nursing home, "I found this a very gratifying experience" Zoe stated. She finished her nursing career where ultimately she spent her final days on earth.
Zoe was a member of the Stockton Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed friendships with the congregation and attending a weekly Bible Study group.
Edward and Zoe enjoyed their retired life where they spent time at the lake, traveling back and forth to Oklahoma to visit family and friends. Zoe had long time friends who she never lost touch with. They would travel with their 5th wheel to the west and south to spend the cold winter months.
Edward and Zoe also enjoyed many hours with their grandchildren playing Pay Day, taking them to swimming lessons and watching Golden Girls.
On April 11, 1995 Edward left this earth to be with the Lord.
Zoe was a strong woman. Throughout her life she faced many physical hardships, but she never let that stop her. Zoe enjoyed all of her grandchildren and was quick to help when needed.
In 2014 Zoe moved to Lake Stockton Health Care Facility and had the privilege of moving to their new facility in 2019. There she had wonderful care by the nurses and staff and enjoyed singing to the other residents.
Zoe is survived by her children Gary Combs and wife Robin and daughter Janet Fox grand children Justin Combs (Mycah), Jennifer Rains, Megan Wormington (David), Emily Milburn (Mark), Ryan Combs (Alyssa), Mikayla Neil (Brandon) and great grandchildren, Preston, Zoe and Junie Rains, Hunter and Easton Wormington, Kolby, Daxton, Boston and Mia Milburn, Kyngston and Persephone Combs and family Kenton Rains, Ronnie and Mary Jane Miller, Kade and Stacie Scrivner, Scott and Sunnie Miller and many other family and friends.
