Zoila America Hernandez, 67, of Des Moines passed away on March 13, 2023 in Des Moines, IA. A visitation will be held March 17, 2023 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Americas Parrish in Des Moines on March 18, 2023 at 10:00am The burial will take following the Mass at Glendale Cemetery.
Zoila America Hernandez, the daughter of Telesforo Lemus and Amalia Hernandez was born in El Salvador on June 18, 1955, she was the daughter of an agriculturist. Zoila was the second eldest of four siblings. She immigrated to the United States in 2013 in the hot summer of July to Des Moines, IA. Here she spent the majority of her time being a caretaker to her three grandchildren; Janely, Justin and Allyson.
The happiest moments in Zoila's life were those of which she spent in what El Salvador taking care of her two grandchildren, Johnathan and Lely Vasquez. Her livelihood consisted of baking bread for her many loyal customers. She was known, for being an animal lover wherever she went, she would find herself attracting and loving many animals including; the two cats she loved Bigotes and Tonny as well as caring for her dog Cheeto.
In the summer, Zoila would be found in her garden, she would make her garden look beautiful which many people would stop and compliment. Some of her hobbies would consist of shopping in the street market, walking with her grandchildren in the park and watching movies. One of her favorite family memories is of her, picking out different restaurants for the family to go and enjoy. Her favorite was IHOP, where she would order a big stack of waffles and extra crispy bacon. Zoila loved her El Salvador heritage and sharing memories in her life growing up there.
Zoila is survived by her five siblings; Orlando Hernandez, Marco Hernandez. Rosalbino Hernandez, Saul Hernandez, Mary Hernandez; children Amilcar Chacon, Estela Chacon, Mirian Quintero and Manuel Chacon and eight grandchildren Johnathan, Lely, Kevin, Alejandro, Janely, Justin, Allyson, Amber and Danna; She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was loved my so many and will be missed.
