Zona Isabel Mayo, age 16, of Brandon, gained her Angel Wings on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at home with her family by her side.
She was born in Knoxville, TN on October 23, 2006. It was the little things in life that we all take for granted that brought a smile and laughter to her face. She has been a huge part of advocating for babies with special needs and children with disabilities through the years, meeting with Senator’s and high-profile people shining a light where it is truly needed. Zona’s throne was her wheelchair, and she was “Queen Z” to all her subjects that came to see her and in turn she spread joy to them. Her infectious smile and laughter brought so much joy and happiness to those she met, whether a stranger, friend, or her family. Zona will be deeply missed and leaves a void that can never be filled.
Zona is survived by her parents James Michael and Katherine Songer Mayo, sister Sydney Mayo all of Brandon, MS, grandparents, Brenda and Bob Williams of Louisville, KY, Linda Davis of Kodak, TN, Dennis and Ann Mayo of Saucier, MS, aunt Sabrina Mayo of Gulfport, MS, aunt Jenny and Brent Lackey of Knoxville, TN, aunt Bethany Williams of Knoxville, TN, aunt Angie Mayo Dawson of Foley, AL, uncle, Joshua and Shawna Mayo of Saucier, MS, a host of other relatives and friends.
The family request that no black be worn and that vibrant colors be worn at Zona’s Celebration of Life Service 3:00pm Thursday, May 18, 2023, from the chapel of Ott and Lee, Brandon with visitation starting at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Gardens.
