Zulema Tamez de Garcia, of
Brownsville, TX, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered eternal rest after a 21-year battle with cancer on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. She succumbed to her illness at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Matamoros, Mexico on Sunday, August 6, 1950, and was 74 years old.
She is preceded in death by her parents Israel and Josefa; sisters Olivia and Blanca; brothers Arturo, Rodolfo, and Noe Alberto.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Humberto Garcia; children Hector, Sandra and Cristina along with their spouses Rita, John Joe, and Floyd; grandchildren Hector Adriel, Alex, Joseph, Dan, and Aidan; brothers and sisters Elida, Martha, Camilo, Rolando, and Marisa; and a large beautiful extended family who loved her very much.
Foremost, her world revolved around her husband and children. Despite her love for her family, she never turned away others in need. She had a selfless, lively, go-getter, no-bull attitude that attracted those around her. She lived an honest, full life and inspired those who knew her to do the same. She protected, motivated and guided all who knew her despite the circumstances – good or bad.
She accomplished so much in her lifetime and loved her work as a hairdresser for 60+ years. This granted her many loving friendships that followed her throughout her life. Her life experiences allowed her to meet many people along the way and it's inspiring to observe the life she and her husband have built during this lifetime.
As her cancer battle progressed, her interests shifted and she enjoyed reading her bible, silent prayers, visiting with family, and keeping her hands active through sewing, sudoku, loteria, reaching Candy Crush level 1,222 / Cookie Jam level 2,091 (device 1 – iPad) / Cookie Jam level 2,366 (device 2 – iPhone), watching movies and favorite talk show "Acercate a Rocio" with her husband. She also greatly enjoyed going fishing with her fisherman husband (*wink).
Zule will be greatly missed more than words can express. She continuously sacrificed for others while maintaining a humble heart. May Zule be received by Jesus with open arms of comfort and eternal rest in Him. All our love, forever and ever.
