Giuseppe D'Adamo Obituary

Giuseppe (Joe) D'Adamo passed away peacefully in his home at age 87 surrounded by his adoring family. Joe was born in the Puglia Region of Italy to Ines and Vincenzo D'Adamo. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 13, attended Napa High School, and proudly served our nation for 11 years in the U.S. Air Force. While home on leave, he met what was to become his lifelong sweetheart, Iris, and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Determined to provide a life of opportunity for his growing family, Joe received an honorable discharge from the military in 1965 and returned to Napa. He opened Joe D'Adamo Tire and established himself as a trusted and respected businessman serving the community he loved for 37 years. Joe took inspiration from reading about successful entrepreneurs and incorporated new ideas to improve his own business. He was proud that Joe D'Adamo Tire continued under the ownership of his son, J. Michael.

Connecting with people was one of Joe's finer traits. He was a great storyteller and took pleasure in regaling family and friends with stories of his adventures in the military, business, and in life. Paramount to Joe was time spent with his family and friends sharing a meal, a glass of his Cabernet, or brandy and 7up.

Throughout his life and especially in his retirement, Joe enjoyed bowling, and playing cards. An avid 49ers and Giants fan, Joe delighted in taking people to a ball game. Along with his wife Iris, he took pleasure in entertaining, winemaking, gardening, playing bocci, traveling, participating in clubs, service organizations (Napa Elks Lodge, SIRS, Roving Roosters, Sons of Italy) and volunteering for veterans causes.

Joe is survived by his wife, Iris; children: Katherine (Ben), Dorene (Berj), J. Michael (Lisa), Annette (Randy), and Vincent (Jacqueline); his 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; his brother, Gemy and sister, Antoinette and extended family.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Henry Cakau, Tom Chang, and the team at Collabria Care for their kind and compassionate care.

A private funeral Mass was held and a celebration of life is planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity serving the needs of veterans or Collabria Care.

On March 21, 2023 our family received a notification from Collabria that there were three anonymous donors who made donations via Legacy.com. I wish I knew who you were so I could thank you personally. Hope you see this. We very much appreciate your donation. My thoughts and prayers to the many who loved Joe. I worked for him in the small gas station on Main across from Rossi's grocery in the late 60s. Joe taught me a lot about work ethics, customer relations, and business sense. What I learned from him is still with me these 50+ years later.

What a truly kind, trustworthy, considerate gentleman! Always friendly, Joe would consistently treat his clients with fairness, consideration, and a genuine goodwill. As told by those who have had near-death experiences, in the next realm, we must experience how we make other people feel. Based on that, I am sure Joe must have gained a wonderful place for himself in heaven!!

When I needed tires or an alignment, D'Adamo's was the place to go. Joe was terrific, always smiling, and taking good care of the customers who frequented his business. He had such good stories to tell and was always positive about life and people. What a great man he was, definitely legendary, and a wonderful example for his children.
With sincere sympathy for his entire family and the community of Napa following the loss of such a great man. May God hold you in his loving arms.

Dear Friends
We are extremely saddened to read of Joe´s passing, he was a truly good man and friend. Joe and his son Mike´s business has been our trusted place for service and friendship that we have shared for generations which started with our grandparents & parents and continued with us and our children & grandchildren. We remember getting gas at his station for $0.26/gallon and always seeing his big smile, friendly handshake and a story or joke! When the gas pumps left we continued getting great tires, but unfortunately seeing him less frequently then ... unless we all ran into each other at Mary´s or an event about town or even the time we saw him & his family at Disneyland. He will always be remembered by us fondly.
May God Comfort and Bless you all.
With Our Love and Heartfelt Sympathy,
Jerry & Peggy Larghi and Family

We all remember Joe as a warm, friendly, caring man. It was fun back in the days to drive up to the pumps at Joes and have them pump the gas at 19 cents a gallon, wash the windows, etc then after the pumps were removed, having all tire work and alignments there. He was a great man who really enjoyed family helping him there.
