Iris Rita D'Adamo
NAPA - Iris Rita D'Adamo passed away peacefully at the age of 85.
Born in the Marche region of Italy to Giulia and Alfredo Santi, Iris' childhood was not easy but was filled with the simple joys of rural life on a farm with extended family. That, along with her strong Catholic faith laid the foundation for her nurturing spirit. Iris immigrated to the United States at the age of 15 with her mother and shortly thereafter was joined in St. Helena by her father and sisters, Julie and Anna. She graduated from St. Helena High School in 1957.
In 1956, Iris' heart found its counterpart in a handsome young Air Force private named Joe D'Adamo who had also immigrated from Italy. Much of their courtship and engagement occurred via mail as Joe was stationed overseas, and in December 1957 they married at St. Helena Catholic Church. Together they raised five children and built a successful business (Joe D'Adamo Tire). They faced many challenges but remained sweethearts through it all. Their 65-year marriage was a testament to enduring love.
Iris was the heart of her family and a shining example of faith, devotion, and unconditional love. She delighted in her role as mother and tirelessly devoted her life to her family. Her love for her children was boundless, and there wasn't anything she wouldn't do to make their lives better. Iris was overjoyed to welcome each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and become Nonna and Bisnonna.
She was an exceptional cook and lovingly prepared the regional fare from her native country for her family and friends. One of her greatest pleasures was to host others at her table. Iris had an amazing sense of humor and a beautiful laugh. In addition to cooking, she enjoyed cleaning, gardening, sewing, knitting, crafting and trips to the beach.
She remained close to her Italian heritage and often had an amusing Italian proverb to share. Italian music, especially opera, brought her joy. In retirement, Iris and Joe enjoyed traveling, going on two trips to Italy, cruises, and RV trips. Many of these adventures were shared with lifelong friends and relatives. Iris was a devout Catholic and member of the Sons of Italy.
Throughout her life Iris faced many health challenges, which developed in her a will to persevere, a love of life, strong faith, and imbued within her a deep sense of care and empathy for others facing life's hardships. People could always count on her. She was kind, generous, compassionate, and made people feel loved and special.
In addition to her immediate family, Iris was close to her sisters, extended family and cherished friends. Iris will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her. Iris was predeceased by Joe, and she is survived by her children, Katherine (Ben), Dorene (Berj), J. Michael (Lisa), Annette (Randy), and Vincent (Jacqueline); her 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; her sisters, Julie Prince and Anna True (Rodger), and extended family.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to A Partner in Caring, Providence Hospice, and the staff at The Inn on Villa Lane for their kind and loving care.

Oh dear, dear Iris. You will be so missed. I met you when my mother, JoAnn Myers, moved to The Inn on Villa Lane. She would sit with you when you would both be listening in to the musical artist that would visit The Inn. I started working at The Inn in the memory care unit and truly cherish the time I was able to spend with you. I would approach and say, "Hello Iris" and you would just light up and make my day. I really miss you. So much love to you and your family.
Love,
Valerie Myers

I got to know Iris at The Inn On Villa Lane. When she was engaged in an activity that she enjoyed like coloring, making pizelles, and visiting with family, her face lit up with a beautiful smile. She so enjoyed the visits from her family, especially her daughter, her grandson, sisters, and friends. She was always so gracious, gentle, and kind. She is missed in our community.

Such a lady and an inspiring role model. I remember days during high school in the early 80´s walking down Central and knowing there would always be Mrs. D´Adamo with a welcoming smile and food. Through the college and family growing years, she always has had wisdom, joy, and love without limits. God rest your soul as you reunite with your husband and parents in heaven.
