Lorraine Brozynski Obituary

Lorraine Leona Brozynski (nee Olson), 89, of Naperville, Ill. since 1977, formerly of Chicago, Ill., passed into the loving arms of her Lord on Friday, July 8, 2016 following a courageous eight-year battle with cancer. The daughter of the late Roy C. and Leona (nee Srenaski) Olson of Chicago and Taylor, Wis., she was born August 20, 1926. Lorraine attended St. Bronislava Parish School and later Bowen High School, where she was a majorette, played clarinet in the marching band and met her husband of 70 years, Harry J. Brozynski. The two married on February 23, 1946, while he was on a three-day pass from the U.S. Navy. Lorraine eventually followed her husband to Charleston, S.C., and Norfolk, Va., where he was stationed following his service during World War II. She later moved back to Chicago, where he joined her after he was discharged. Lorraine and Harry had three children - Paul (U.S. Air Force, ret.) of Sycamore, Ill., Andrea (Phil) McVey of Monmouth, Ill., and Philip of Naperville - who they raised in the West Pullman neighborhood of Chicago. Lorraine and Harry Brozynski lived in Chicago for nearly 50 years before moving to the western suburbs. She was a longtime employee of International Harvester Credit Union on the south side of Chicago and Valley View School District 365U, Bolingbrook and Romeoville, Ill., from which she retired in 1989. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary while a parishioner at Assumption B.V.M. Parish in Chicago, and a founding member of St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville where she served as a host greeter, helped found the 50 & Holding Seniors Club and was an avid supporter of the Lakota people of the St. Agnes Parish in Manderson, S.D., on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. She enjoyed traveling - visiting all 50 states, Canada and much of Europe -Victorian murder mystery novels, "Shrek," "Kings Row" (the movie that was playing during her first date with her eventual husband), and playing piano. Lorraine is survived by her husband Harry, her three children, grandchildren Meghan (Brad) Schroeder of DeKalb, Ill., Mike (Julie) McVey of Monmouth, Ill., and Elizabeth (Nick) Wood of Norwalk, Iowa, great-grandchildren Braden, Katherine and Rylan Schroeder, a brother, Robert (Nancy) Olson of Taylor, Wis., a cousin Natalie (Robert) Petrucelli of Chandler, Ariz., and many family members, friends and Bingo partners. She will be missed by many and all who knew and loved her. Visitation Wednesday, July 13, 2016, 4:00-8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL.
