Sharon Opp Obituary

Sharon Rose Opp (nee Murphy), age 79, a Naperville, IL resident since 1973, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer's. She touched many lives and will be sorely missed. Sharon was born to Edwin "Eddie" and Norma Rose (nee Hayes) Murphy on June 29, 1943. After spending her early years in Jacksonville, IL, she received her teaching degree from Illinois State University and then moved to the Chicago suburbs to begin a career as an elementary educator. She married Joe Opp in 1967 and had two sons. Sharon was a longtime resident of Naperville, IL. She devoted her life to her family, her town, her special needs children at school, and St. Raphael Catholic Church. Anyone who knew her was regaled with stories about her kids and grandchildren. Her best friends knew she was always ready for a good party and would lead the charge to any dance floor. She and Joe spent most of their retirement hopping across the globe, with a particular affinity for the Caribbean. Quick to party, but even quicker to love, Sharon truly embraced life and devoted herself to friends and family. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Norma. She is survived by her husband, Joe Opp, her two sons, Joe (Kerrin Vance) Opp, and Gary Opp, and grandchildren Josh and Sophie Opp. She is also survived by her two brothers, Rick Murphy and Chuck (Jennifer) Murphy and nephews, Brett, Sean and Ryan Murphy; Dick, Skip, and Ian Opp. A visitation will take place on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville, IL 60540. A celebration of Sharon's life will follow Thursday, 12:00 PM in the funeral home. Sharon will be laid to rest at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville, IL. When I lived in Germany, Sharon and Joe visited for a few days. They had been in Rome and had sung for the Pope with their choir. We had such a wonderful time and got to know each other much better. I am her cousin, Jean.
