Timothy Platt Obituary

Our family is sad to announce the passing of Timothy A. Platt, 75, on December 22, after a long illness. He was a resident of Naperville for 63 years. He is survived by his daughter Katie Meister and her fiancé Jeff Starck and his grandsons, Jimmy and Joey Meister, all of Antioch, Illinois; his son Jake Platt and his wife, Michelle and her daughter Madi, all of Plainfield, Illinois; his sister Penny Radice and his niece, Mary Mullins and her daughter Baylee, all of Mt. Dora Florida; his niece Amanda Lake and her son Alex both of Columbia, Missouri; his long time friends Tom Klingbeil of Naperville, Mark and Jo Ann Graham of Colorado and their daughter, Kerry, his God daughter, of Oregon, Jim and Karen Noffsinger of Colorado, his former wife Wanda of Warrenville, and his many friends and fellow Chicago Bears fans. He is preceded in death by his sister Prudi Platt of The Villages, Florida, formerly of Naperville. Tim graduated from Naperville High School in 1960, attended Lincoln Junior College before joining the army in 1963 and served until 1969. He completed officers candidate school and was commissioned as a second lieutenant, the highest rank in the Army National Guard. He was called to Chicago in 1968 for the riots that broke out during the Democratic National Convention. After the army, he worked as a traveling auditor for the Fiber Box Association before starting a career in retail, working for Ace Hardware and Moser Lumber in Naperville. He was a member of the Judd Kendall VFW post #3873 in Naperville and a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. In the 1980's, he opened The Hardware Store in downtown Naperville along with co-owners, Sandy and Sonja Sanborn and wife Wanda. After 3 1/2 years he resumed his career at Moser Lumber. In 1974, he and his wife bought a home at 717 W. Jackson Ave., a real fixer-upper. Tim turned it into a charming family home, a great place to raise their two kids, Katie and Jake. His family will be sharing a private memorial at his request. His many friends will be planning a gathering (a party!) in the spring to celebrate his life.

Katie and Jake, so sorry to hear of your loss. Tim was a great dad, a kind soul, and a wonderful friend. He was my neighbor, my coworker, my beer drinking buddy, and my inspiration. God bless you all. I will try to make the party. Keep me posted. Ed Kupsche

I am so sorry to hear this news. Mom told me about Tim this afternoon and it made me so sad. Tim was a family friend and all of us Mennes (including our father, Bob) had the honor to work with Tim. I still look to emulate his awesome management style and personal qualities in my own leadership. He made us laugh every day. I remember, too, the warm home on Jackson. Babysitting Jake and Katie, and the fun Moser parties. Having a party to celebrate Tim's life is so like him. Love to your family. There is a hole in Naperville. . .Hugs to the Platt family.

Katie and Jake, your dad was a special influence in my life. I remember many special days at your house on Jackson.

Best regards,

Many fond memories of Tim. The first to come to mind is the " snow days " when we couldn't get to NCHS but managed to find our way to Tim's folks house for all day polker marathons. He will be missed.

So many memories of fun times long ago. Over the years circumstances have changed and I've lost touch with the many friends we shared, but I still have the great memories of Tim and his friends. My condolences to his family and friends.

I will never forget the nice guy that worked the counter at Ace Hardware. His thoughtfulness was an example to all.
