William Brieger Obituary

"Bill"

William R. "Bill" Brieger, Age 88, a resident of Plainfield, IL, formerly of North Riverside, Downers Grove and Naperville, IL from 1971-2000, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, Bolingbrook, IL. He was born January 5, 1920 in Chicago, IL.

Bill is survived by a daughter, Janet (Richard) Valdez of Libertyville, IL; a granddaughter, Lauren Valdez of Libertyville; step-daughters, JoAnn (George) Dunbar of Plainfield and Donna (John) Madia of Plainfield; many step-grandchildren; a niece, Joan (Irv) Svoboda; two nephews, Thomas and Patrick Nichols; and sister-in-law, Alice (Jack) Nichols of San Diego, CA.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine E. Brieger; his second wife, Evelyn Scellato; his parents, William and Frances Brieger; and siblings, Clarence Brieger and Alberta Snyder.

Bill grew up in Berwyn, was a graduate of Morton High School and served in the U.S. Army, in the Pacific Theater, during World War II. He was employed as an electrician with Western Electric Co., Cicero, IL for 43 years and stayed active at AT&T/Lucent as a volunteer/equipment repairman after his retirement. Bill was a member of American Legion Post #80, Downers Grove and a former member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Naperville. He enjoyed bowling and gardening. Bill was known as being an all around handyman and also for his patriotism.

Visitation Wednesday, March 26, 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

Closing Prayers will begin Thursday, March 27, 9:45 A.M. from the funeral home and will proceed to a 10:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville.

Interment: Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton, IL.
