Daniel Harmon Obituary
Daniel Walter Harmon
Marietta, GA - Daniel Walter Harmon, 86, of Marietta GA and formerly of Naples FL and Portland ME, passed peacefully at his home on April 26, 2021, surrounded by his loving children. He was born December 10, 1934 in Hollis Maine, to the late Harry and Dorothy Harmon.
Dan was a baseball and basketball jock and a graduate of Deering High School in Portland Maine. He met the love of his life, Sally Meehan, and they were wed in November of 1956. They lived in the Portland/Falmouth/Cumberland areas for many years, and raised three children. Early in his career he spent most of his time mentoring a family friend in the building/renovation industry. Dan was always the happiest swinging a hammer. Later, he owned a Fiat dealership in Lewiston, Maine and after relocating to Naples, Florida in 1976, he spent his remaining time before retirement managing beachside condominiums. Sally was a long-time real estate agent, and many of their residents and customers became lifelong friends.
Dan's fondest childhood memories were of summers spent on Sebago Lake in Maine with his parents, four siblings and "lake friends and family". He not only shared many colorful fishing, waterskiing, boating and other outdoor adventure stories with his young children, but continued the tradition with his wife and children on that same lake. A few years before his death, he traveled to the lake to reunite with sisters, nephews, nieces and friends…and declared it the best vacation ever.
Dan was beloved by all who knew him. He was a man of few words, possessed a great sense of humor, and was a kind and gentle soul. He also had a mischievous and adventurous side, which landed him in numerous timeouts during childhood and an occasional doghouse in his adult years. He loved playing golf and poker, and in his later years at his retirement community in Marietta developed a passion for high-tech wall art paintings, which he donated by the dozens to various charitable organizations in Sally's memory.
Dan was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Hillary Ann Harmon, and in 2014 by Sally, his wife of over 60 years. He is survived by his adult children, Holly A. Harmon, Heidi (Harmon) Walsh and Craig M. Harmon; his grandsons, Patrick Walsh and Matthew Walsh; his sisters Ruth (Joseph) Hutchins and Shirley (James) Cobb, several nieces and nephews and extended family.
The Harmon family has been profoundly moved by the outpouring of support, love and prayers, and is most appreciative of your kindness and compassion. Our hearts are full knowing that so many people loved him as we did.
At his request, a private family celebration of this life will be held in Maine later this year.
Rest in peace Dad…we love and miss you every day.
