Joan A. Stevens Naples, FL
Joan A. Stevens, 88, of Naples, died surrounded by her family on February 9, 2014 in her home at Homewood Residence Naples, a loving and caring place, where she made many friends, many of whom she considered family. Joan was born in Chicago, IL to John D. and Anne Mae (Childs) Allen, and grew up in the Chicago/Libertyville area. Joan attended Dana Hall in Massachusetts and Carleton College in Minnesota where she met her first husband, Frederick H. Klass. They married and raised their family in Minnesota. She later married James 'Pappy' O. Stevens in 1976 and together they moved to North Carolina and later moved to Naples, where she has lived ever since.
Joan is survived by her son, Rick Klass; daughter, Denby (Jack) Webb; stepsons, John (Francia) Stevens and Jim (Pat) Stevens; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who brought her so much joy over the years; and Nancy Clark, a friend and caregiver.
She was preceded in death by both of her husbands.
Joan enjoyed bridge, needlepoint and MahJongg and was active in the Vestry at St. John in the Wilderness in Flat Rock, NC. She was involved in PEO her entire married life and volunteered at Encore Consignment Shop for David Lawrence Center. Joan was very selfless and made an impression on many people, positively affecting their lives. To know her was to truly love her. Joan was deeply loved by her entire family and will be missed by all.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Dear Denby, Jack and Rick,
Last Christmastime was happier because of a call from Joanie and Denby. How nice. It brought back memories of meeting Joanie for the first time when she and Fritz came bounding down the hill at my mother's cabin at Side Lake. We were friends for life right then and there. I miss you, Joanie, and will continue our friendship through the children. See you this summer at ole Side Lake.
With love,

I will miss Joan very much, she was my last surviving cousin. While we haven't seen each other recently we always kept in touch over the phone. We had some great conversations about our family tree. I would like very much to keep in contact with Rick and Denby

Love always. Your humor and insight will be missed and I'll always remember such good conversation and laughter while playing Hearts in Steep Creek. It healed my heart to see you by Pappy's side when he needed it and you embraced new family without any qualms. Those are some of my happiest memories.
