Michael Gibbs Obituary

Michael Paul Gibbs Naples, Fl

Mike Gibbs passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 8, 2010 in Naples after a long illness. He was born on January 5, 1946 and lived in Naples most of his life. He graduated from Naples High School and was a proud member of the US Marine Corp. He served his country in Vietnam where he was exposed to Agent Orange and the resulting illnesses that would eventually take his life.

He made many friends in the construction industry in Naples where he worked. He was one of the co-founders of Michelbob's Restaurant.

Mike was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jimmie and Mary Jo Gibbs; and a son, Bryan; and his niece, Shawn.

He is survived by his brother, John D. Gibbs; a sister, Ramona (Gibbs) Coleman; a son, Brad; and a daughter, Leah; and numerous other relatives including his special friend, Ron Selvia.

The family wants to thank Mike Hayman for his care to Mike during the past several months. Mike will miss sitting under the chickee at Harold's Place and sharing stories with those who made his life a little brighter.

Friends and family will gather at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (TOMORROW) at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 6926 Trail Blvd., Naples, FL 34108.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Fl 34105-3847.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family that Mike left behind. I went to school with Mike and he was always one of the nicest and sweetest boys in the class. We had a lot of good times together.

The end of an era.
In the 80s/90s, Mike, Bob, Roundo, Brownie, Ben were great friends & great fun. Now so many pals have gone on to peaceful pastures..(Ben died 2/9/09),hopefully they are still having adventures! My first memories of Mike were when we were in 2nd grade together. He came over and climbed some pine trees where I lived. I considered him a friend all through high school. I moved away after that and lost touch, but I am saddened by his difficult life experiences. My sympathies are with you, his family, and wishes that the Lord will be close to you all. I think especially of Ramona who was a favorite student of my mother, Hazel Whitsitt.

Mike was a very good friend of mine and I met him 15 years ago through Ron Selvia. He always had a open heart and always helped me find work when I needed it and when he needed help I always returned the favor. He was a great cook. I shall miss him greatly.

I first met Mike about five years ago under that Teekee at Harolds. The last couple of years our friendship flourished. Mike took me airboating and visited me in Wisconsin last summer. Mike was tough, and as hard as a concrete nail (with a heart of gold). My heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends. Special thanks to Sharon, Mike & Ron for being there for Mike. I'll never forget the man. We are diminished, I am truly saddened for our loss.

I am saddened by the loss of Mike, my friend. When I moved to Naples in 1960 we were in school together. He became and remained one of my faithful friends through the years. I will miss him.
