Captain Robert Leighton Ingram Naples, FL
Captain Robert Leighton Ingram, 58, passed away June 15, 2009 in Naples, FL.
Leighton was born in Durham, NC, September 17, 1950 to Dr. James and Frances Ingram. He grew up in the Tampa area attending Berkeley Prep and H.B. Plant High School where he made lasting friendships. He spent summers at the family home in Boca Grande and it was there he was first introduced to the sea and fishing, particularly for the Silver King. Leighton later settled in Naples. As a boat captain, he enjoyed much of his time fishing and loved being on the water. In addition to his love for the ocean, he was an avid outdoorsman who participated in many hunting trips, but mostly would go to sit and soak up the peacefulness of nature around him. Leighton's true passion in life was spending time with his family and close friends.
He is survived by his son, Leighton S. (Victoria) Ingram of Naples; daughter, Christina (Jason) Daniels of Tuckasegge, NC; granddaughter, Hunter (four), grandsons, Hugh (two) and Hanby (ten months) Ingram; father-inlaw, Dr. Livingston B. Sheppard II of Boca Grande FL; sister, Ann Ingram of Tampa; brother, Michael Ingram of Tampa; as well as loving nieces, Summer, Kate, Mary; and nephew, Clinton.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 27th at the Crowninshield20 Community House, 131 Banyan Street, Boca Grande, FL 33921.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Leighton's memory may be made to the Louise duPont Crowninshield Community House, P.O. Box 101, Boca Grande, FL 33921.

To Michael and Ann. Death always catches us off guard. I am sorry for your loss. Leighton was always the older more daring as I remember him. His performance with his band at the Berkeley dances and his TR-3 stand out in my memory. My prayers are with you both during this trying time.

Leighton was my best pal and friend growing up in Tampa. He was a guy who always made you feel good being around. Forever optimistic he always had a sparkle in his smile and a very big heart. His wonderful parents, Dr. James and Frances Ingram and his sister Ann and brother Michael introduced me to the wilderness of the tropical paradise of Boca Grande in 1963. We spent many wonderful days working around Journey's Inn fixing up the cottages loving every minute of it. We would do death defying water ski runs through the mangrove bayous, jump the trains down to the phosphate loading docks, build the coolest forts and tree houses in the jungels of the island, catch tarpon -- pull and place a single scale on a board with date and weights of the fish we would catch, explore the islands and have a blast. I last met with Leighton in Boca Grande and we reminiced about so many of our great childhood pranks and adventures. A true and best friend. I will miss him greatly.
All my Love to Michael and Ann and to Leighton's son Leighton and his daughter Christina who I very much look forward to meeting one day soon. Deeply regret I will miss you all at the service. But let's catch up soon.
