Sylvia Hayes Badger Centreville, MD Naples, FL

Sylvia Hayes Badger, 72, of Centreville, MD and winter resident at La Tour Rivage in Naples, FL passed away at Avow Hospice on Monday, February 15, 2010. Sylvia was born December 22, 1937 in Spartanburg, SC, a daughter of Ann and John Hayes.

Prior to retirement, she had a career in journalism as a columnist for the Baltimore News American as well as the Baltimore Sun newspapers reporting on social and political events in Baltimore City and Maryland. She had been previously active in The Junior League of Baltimore, March of Dimes, Santa Claus Anonymous, Hampton Mansion, Lake Roland Garden Club as well as serving on the Board of the Morris Mechanic Foundation.

She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years William Badger; sons, A. Gordon Boone III of Monkton, MD and his wife Susan, John Marshall Boone, his wife Kate of Tiverton, RI; and daughter, Anne Boone Simanski and her husband John Simanski of Reisterstown, MD; stepson, William Badger Jr. and his wife Colleen of Baltimore, MD; and stepdaughter, Elizabeth Wynne and her husband Bill of Front Royal, VA. She is also survived by siblings, Ann H. Johnson and her husband John, L.P. Hayes and his wife Janet and by Donald S. Hayes and wife Margie. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Catie Simanski, Gordon Boone IV, Peter Boone, Laura and John Simanski; as well as step-grandchildren, Steve and Bryce Harrison and Hilary Badger.

A memorial service will be held Friday, February 19th 2010 at 11:00 a.m., at Trinity-By-The Cove Episcopal Church, 553 Galleon Drive, Naples 34102 with Father Edward Gleason officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sylvia's name to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Drive Naples, FL. 34105.
