With a heavy heart I just learned of the passing of your dear father, Edwin, Whitney! Please know how very sorry I am to have read this! My precious friend Betsy will now have her protector with her once again as they both watch over you and yours from the heavens above. God bless them and the and the entire family!
With heartfelt condolences and with prayers and love,

I say goodbye to a man of incomparable distinction.
I am so grateful and blessed to have known Edwin LeGard. What a tremendous loss for everyone who knew and loved this incredibly kind and generous man and Patriot.
My deepest sympathy to Whitney, Prescott and family.

Ed was a good friend for over fifty years, from his time as a portfolio manager at Connecticut General, through his working with Putnam, Warburg Pincus and Neville, Rodie, Shaw, to dinners with the Drones - that exclusive, unorganized group of irreverent fans of P. G. Wodehouse who met at various watering places around New York City for a quarter century.
Ed was a Virginian, a gentleman, and a golfer. It was his perfect golf swing that made him so accurate when it came to throwing rolls at Drones Club dinners, where dining and sluicing came second to repartee. And no wit was quicker than Ed's.
He will be missed, but we know he is now sitting next to "Plum," as Wodehouse was fondly known, along with other Drones who preceded him, Like Jerry, Jimmy, Owen & Ned. But, even more important, he is now with his beloved Betsy.
Ed, we miss you, but we will never forget you. Caroline joins me in sending love to you and your bride,
Sydney
