Richard Waldorf Obituary

Richard Gamble Waldorf
1946 ~ 2021
Richard Gamble Waldorf, passed away peacefully at his home in Waldwick, NJ on August 18, 2021. Born in New York City in 1946, he lived in Allendale, NJ until he moved to Waldwick 12 years ago. Richard was a graduate of Bergen Catholic High School and studied Classics and Language at Fordham University. He was a talented pianist, who accompanied several university Chorale groups, including Fordham and College of Mt. St. Vincent in the Bronx, as well as The NYU men's Chorale at Town Hall in Manhattan. More recently, he served as organist for several local congregations, including St. Luke's RC Church. After college, Richard enlisted in the US Marine Corps and had a lifelong pride in the service he was able to give his Country. Peace, Family, and Patriotism were what mattered most to him, and he will be missed. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph F. and Ruth Hall Waldorf, longtime Allendale residents. He is survived by his siblings, Rosemary (Tom) Maglienti of Morrisonville NY, Judy (Bill) Hopkins of New Canaan, CT, and Jennifer Waldorf of Plattsburgh NY, as well as 16 beloved nieces and nephews and their offspring. His family wishes to thank his medical caregivers, his neighbors at Tamaron, and most importantly, the kind community of which he was a member, West Bergen Mental Healthcare in Ridgewood. Their loving, compassionate, and consistent support and encouragement allowed him to live the full independent life he wished for, despite the obstacles presented by his long-term disabilities. His funeral arrangements and burial will be private, with the assistance of the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's memory may be made to, West Bergen Mental Healthcare, C/O Barbara Hand, 120 Chestnut St, Ridgewood, NJ 07451.
