Gertrude Arbuckle Obituary

Gertrude Marie Arbuckle, 88, of Kentland died Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 6:50 a.m. at the Heritage Healthcare Center, West Lafayette. She was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Kentland to Bruce and Mary Fitzgerald Williams. Gertrude lived in Kentland most of her life. She was a 1938 graduate of A.J. Kent High School in Kentland.  She served as a WAVE in the US Navy in the 1940's. 
On Nov. 25, 1945, she married Walter O. Arbuckle in the Christian Church of Kentland. They began their married life farming in the Goodland area. She and Walter farmed for six years in Sheldon, Ill., prior to returning to Kentland. He preceded her in death Jan. 25, 1986.
In 2004, she entered George Davis Manor Assisted Living in West Lafayette. Later, in 2007, she moved to Heritage Healthcare in West Lafayette. Gertie retired in March of 1983, after 10 years with REMC in Kentland as an office clerk.  After retirement, she babysat in her home and took care of many elderly people in their homes.
She was a member of the Covenant Federated Church of Kentland where she served as Deacon and their WFCA, and the Kentland Women's Club. She deeply loved her family and her family of the heart.
She is survived by children, Linda Marie (husband Steve) Carden of Fowler, Carolyn Sue Arbuckle of Lafayette, Walter Keith Arbuckle of Concord, N.C., Stanley( wife Laura) Wayne Arbuckle of Portage, Mark Alan (wife Beth) Arbuckle of Fort Mill, S.C.; daughter-in-law Rinda Jo Williams of Frankfort, Ky.; sister Ruth Gramman, Kentland; brother, Richard Williams of Rensselaer; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Williams and grandson, Scott A. Tinsman.
Funeral Services were Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 1 p.m. (CDT) at the Covenant Federated Church of Kentland with  Reverends Michael Landon and Jack Snell officiating.  Interment followed at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Kentland. Visitation was Wednesday, March 25, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. (CDT) at the McMullan-Stitz Funeral Home, Kentland.
