Dr. Paul Kevin Gehin

Dr. Paul Kevin Gehin, 53, of Laceyville passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Kevin was born in Madison, Wis., to Morris and LuAnn (Sobotta) Gehin on Dec. 7, 1970.

He attended Calvary Baptist High School and was a member of the class of 1989. He was a decorated wrestler- as the youngest of three boys, he got plenty of practice at home. It was during this time that he discovered what would be his life's calling. As a senior in high school, Kevin went to the chiropractor for the first time after he was in a serious car accident. He knew then that he wanted to be able to help people the way he had been helped, and it became his lifelong passion.

He went to Grand Rapids Community College before attending Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y., to receive his bachelor's degree. Afterwards, he attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated in 2002 and went on to open his own practice in Eldridge, Iowa before relocating to Terre Haute, Ind., then Carmel, Ind. Alongside these offices, he operated Crossroads Chiropractic, a traveling chiropractic business that catered to the Amish of Shipshewana, Ind.

Kevin met the love of his life, Sandy (Yurgatis) Gehin in 2007. They made the long-distance work for three years, with Kevin driving the eleven hours to Pennsylvania three weekends a month. He went from having no kids to having three almost overnight, and he stepped up to the plate with no hesitation. He lovingly nicknamed Dustin 'Dude.' Marissa 'Miss Leigh,' and Makayla 'Sweet Pea.' He always joked that the kids looked like a gaggle of ducklings following their parents, and so the family became the 'Quackers' and the home the 'Quacker's Nest.' He loved attending their sporting events, musicals, and watching them flourish in all their hobbies.

Kevin and Sandy were married on June, 16, 2016 at Sprague Lake, overlooking the beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park and surrounded by family. They enjoyed over seven years of marriage that were filled with love, travels, and family celebrations.

After moving to Pennsylvania, he opened his dream chiropractic office in Pittston. ProHealth Medical was opened in 2012 with the help of Sandy and his daughters, and the office flourished. He became a licensed Functional Hyperbaric Clinician and was among the first to bring hyperbaric treatment to the area. This month marked 12 years in business. He loved helping people and was honored to be a part of taking care of the community over the last 12 years.

Outside of work, he was a man of many talents and passions. He was a hardcore Green Bay Packers fan and when they were playing, you could hear him clapping and cheering from a mile away. He was a ham radio enthusiast and recently installed his dream radio setup that allowed him to communicate with people around the world. He was also a member of the Tri County Sportsman's Club. Kevin became a grill master, because he loved making big family meals and Sandy loved barbecue. One of his proudest accomplishments was joining the Harford Warren Masonic Lodge No. 445, as well as the Scottish Rite in Scranton, and he found great camaraderie with his Masonic brothers. He recently received the Master Builders Award. In addition, he became a certified officiant so he could officiate two of his children's weddings. He took great pride in this privilege and was looking forward to offering his services for other weddings in the area.

Above all else, he loved spending time with his family. Whether it was visiting Wisconsin to see his brothers and go out to movies with them, visiting his snowbird parents in Clearwater, Fla., or taking family vacations across the country, he loved making memories with his loved ones. His favorite destinations included the Rocky Mountains, Atlanta, Ga., the national parks of the American southwest, and Nashville, Tenn.

Anyone who knew Kevin knew a man with a heart bigger than he was. He was always the first to extend a hand, to provide assurance, and he took great pride in taking care of people.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Clifford and Sophie (Bouch) Sobotta; and his paternal grandparents: Edward Francis and Irene (Smithky) Gehin.

Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; their three children: Dustin (Devyn) Voda of Laceyville, Marissa (Joe) Wood of Laceyville, and Makayla (Garrett) Voda of Laceyville; his fur babies: Tigger, Simba, Oaklee and Marlee; his brothers: Ed (Cassie) Gehin of Colombus, Wis., and Don (Stephanie) Gehin of Cottage Grove, Wis.; special aunts: Cathy Stumpf and Annette Guist; uncles, nieces, nephews, and his brothers at the Masonic Lodge; Sandy's parents: Carl and Jeanne (Hibbard) Yurgatis of Laceyville; sister-in-law, Mary (Yurgatis) Whetherhold of Whitehall; and brother-in-law, Brian Yurgatis of Laceyville.

Calling hours will be 6-7 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church Street, Wyalusing, with a Masonic Service conducted by the members of the Harford Warren Masonic Lodge No. 445 and a Funeral Service conducted by Pastor Jonathan Marshall to immediately follow.
