Roger W. Engle III

I wish I could be there to say goodbye, but I know that you have already gone to a much better place. I can imagine that Granddad was anxiously awaiting your arrival and you are happy to be by his side. I want you to know that you have taught me so much. Growing up your home provided me place of love and security, where I knew you were waiting with open arms. I remember thinking that you and Grandpa had found what truly mattered in this world and hoping that I would be so lucky. Your devotion to each other and the love you showed for your children gave me something to aspire to in my own life. I thank you for giving me the strength and good sense to find that for myself. I apologize that I cannot be there these next couple of days, but you of all people understood the obligations and hardships of military service. I will miss hearing your stories of those years during the war when you waited for Grandpa, a heart filled with young love, the unknown and the distance between you eased only by the few letters that made it home. Yet, you never once turned your back on that love, in fact for the next 50 years you nurtured it, passed it on to future generations and used it to support you during the hardest of times. More important than any of the material nonsense this world can bring, your greatest legacy came from your heart. You were a Lady in the finest sense of the word, a wonderful wife, supportive mother, loving grandmother and caring friend to many. I regret you had to leave this earth, for it was better for having you in it. Yet I know that your gentle spirit will live on in me and those you loved forever.
