Robert Stiff Obituary

Robert Arlen "Bob" Stiff

WINCHESTER, VA: Robert Arlen "Bob" Stiff, 74, of Winchester, Virginia, died peacefully Sunday, March 9, 2014, with his family by his side at the Blue Ridge Hospice Center.

He was born in 1939, in Newark, Ohio, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Stiff of Buckeye Lake, Ohio.

He was married to Brenda Stiff for 54 wonderful years.

Mr. Stiff graduated from St. Aloysius Military Academy in New Lexington, Ohio, where he played football, basketball and track. He attended Ohio State University. Bob was a true "Buckeye" fan.

He retired from AT&T/Lucent Technologies, Martinsburg, West Virginia, after 40 years of service. Following retirement he became a consultant for various companies.

All of Bob's passions centered around the love of his family. The family's activities included always being together, boating, pools, swimming, camping, beach vacations, golfing and spending "EVERY" holiday together.

Bob was an avid sports fan, which included attending many of his grandchildren's sporting activities. He was the greatest fan and never missed a game or event such as, Sherando Cheer Competitions and baseball games, James Wood and Shepherd University football games and James Wood and Potomac State University basketball games. The last game he attended was the James Wood JV basketball game. He was proudly recognized as an "Honorary Coach".

In addition to his wife, Bob had three daughters and three son-in-laws, Julie and Tim Tinsman, Jill and Darrell Potter, of Winchester, VA and JoEllen "Jodi" (deceased) and Tim Frye of Stephens City, VA; five grandchildren, Lindsey Frye, Trae Tinsman, Chad Potter, Logan Frye and Jacob Potter; and three nephews, Michael Stiff of Chicago, IL, Bruce and Ronnie Stiff, of Los Angeles, CA.

A brother, Jack Stiff, of California preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 5:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Braddock Street United Methodist Church with Reverend G. Kirk Nave officiating and Reverend Wm. Anthony Layman assisting.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia, 22601 or Braddock Street United Methodist Church, 115 Wolfe Street, Winchester, Virginia, 22601.

It has been many ears since we have seen you,but think often of the families that lived in Etna, Ohio that were good friends to us. Julie and our David were in the same class. My goodness, my parents were good friends of Bob's parents back in the hey-day of Buckeye Lake Park and the bus station. In fact Bob's mother bought me my first pair of jeans when I was just a little fella. RIP Bob, Buckeye Lake hasn't forgotten you!
