He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid outdoorsman and boater and he was a Shriner.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnne; three sons, David Martin Butterfield of Lawrence, Kan., John Leigh Butterfield of Salisbury, Md., and Gerald Dewey Butterfield of Greenhills, Ohio; and three grandsons.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2 at Cotten Funeral Home.
