Ester Jones Gaskins

Vanceboro - Mrs. Esther Jones Gaskins, 92, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Vanceboro. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Gaskins was a native and lifelong resident of the Vanceboro community of Craven County. A homemaker, she had been employed at Craven Regional Medical Center and later in private duty nursing for a number of years. Mrs. Gaskins was a charter member and long time volunteer with the Vanceboro Rescue Squad until her health prevented her participation in 2004.

Mrs. Gaskins was a member of Covenant of God Church. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard R. "Buck" Gaskins, and a daughter, Marjorie Gaskins.

She is survived by her three sons, Sammy Gaskins and wife, Cindy, of New Bern, Allan Gaskins, of Vanceboro, and Craig Gaskins, of Vanceboro; one daughter, Dianne G. Kite and husband, Stanley, of Vanceboro; four grandchildren, Daryl Gaskins and wife, Claire, of Clayton, Brent Gaskins and wife, Rene, of Emerald Isle, Kristy Gaskins, of Vanceboro, and Brandon Kite, of Fayetteville, NC; one step-grandson, David Fillingame, of Chocowinity; two great-grandchildren, Maggie and Lillie Gaskins, both of Clayton; sister, Lillian Carchetti, of Greensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Vanceboro and other times at the home of Dianne and Stanley Kite.
