Ethna Bennert Obituary

NEW BERN | Ethna Christine Bennert, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on May 31, 2015.
Ethna was the daughter of Herbert and Sara Wilkinson of Kearny, New Jersey. She was an alumna of St. Cecilia's High School in Kearny and the Latin American Institute of America in New York, New York.
Her professional career began as a translator for the United Nations. She then worked for IBM in Manhattan as an executive secretary and met her future husband Art while at the shore in Sea Girt, New Jersey. They moved to Ohio in 1965 where she continued to work as a bilingual administrative assistant for Champion Papers International and as a mother raising and caring for her family.
She loved her family, vacations at her beach house on Fripp Island and cross stitching. On almost any given day, she could be found sitting on her porch with her husband, Art, enjoying a perfect Rob Roy on the rocks with a twist and listening to Broadway musicals or Pavarotti with the volume turned up! She also never missed an opportunity to make a donation to CarolinaEast Foundation, Cincinnati Children's Hospital or St. Judes's Children's Hospital.
Her husband, Art, preceded her in death on January 8, 2014, and she is survived by their three children, the Honorable Ethna Bennert Cooper and her husband, Todd Laurence Cooper of Cincinnati, Ohio and their three sons Todd, Jr., Wilkie, and Peter; Arthur J. Bennert, Jr. and his wife Virginia Riehl Bennert of San Antonio, Texas and their children Kate and Chris; and Keith W. Bennert, M.D. and his wife Elizabeth A. Benson, M.D. of New Bern, North Carolina and their children Kevin and Ryan Elizabeth.
A private funeral service for the family will be held June 8, 2015 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Memorials in Ethna's name may be made to CarolinaEast Foundation Hospice Fund, PO Box 1576, New Bern, NC 28563,www.crmcfoundation.com or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105,www.stjude.org. or Cincinnati Children's Hospital, 3333 Burnet Avenue, MLC 9002, Cincinnati, OH 45229,www.cincinnatichildrens.org/giving.
