He was a native of Franklin and a resident of New Bern for more than 40 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was employed with the Craven County Department of Social Ser-vices. He was also a member and volunteer of DAV Chapter No. 40, transporting veterans to the Veterans Administration Hospital.
His funeral will be at noon Saturday at Oscar's Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. R.E. Midgette Sr. officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
He is survived by his son, Eugene S. Carpenter of the home; one daughter, Barbara Hawkins Perry of New Bern; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at 3802 Windy Trail. Viewing will be at Oscar's Mortuary from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. Online condolences may be sent to oscarsmortuary.com.
