Nicholas Salerni Obituary

NEWINGTON

Nicholas John Salerni, Jr., 57, of Newington, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 after a brief illness. Nick was born in New Britain on April 18, 1968, the second son of Nicholas Salerni, Sr. and MaryAnn (Oskinis) Salerni. He grew up on Carlton Street in New Britain alongside his siblings John, Christine and Lisa. Nick spent his childhood days playing little league baseball and riding his bike with friends in Stanley Quarter Park. He attended Stanley School, Holmes Elementary School, St. Ann's School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School in New Britain, prior to graduating with a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Connecticut.

Outgoing, witty and affable to those who knew him, Nick was perfectly suited for the sales profession. It was even said that he could "talk a dog off a meat truck." His career in sales spanned almost 30 years, ending with a position at Dart Container Corporation which he held for 19 years. Outside of work, Nick could be found proudly coaching his son and daughter's little league teams in New Britain and Newington or drumming to Led Zeppelin. "Nicky Sticks" showcased his love for drumming by performing at bars, restaurants and venues in Connecticut with several cover bands in the 1990s, including Sequoya and Rumpshaker. A true lover of music, he could be found most recently in the living room "jamming" with family members after holiday get togethers at his mother's house. Nick was also quick to offer his handyman skills whenever someone was in need, whether it was a car repair or leaky pipe. A sports enthusiast, he also proudly supported the New York Yankees, New York Giants and UConn Mens Basketball.

Of all of his accomplishments big and small, Nick was most proud of his children and family. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. Until we meet again, rock on and save some pickles and olives for the rest of us.

Nick is survived by his wife, Kristin Salerni; son Michael (Lorraine) Salerni of New Britain; daughter Laura (Marc) Daniel of Stratford and grandchildren Nicholas Salerni and John Salerni. He also leaves behind his parents Nicholas and MaryAnn (Oskinis) Salerni, Sr. of New Britain; brother John Salerni of Killingworth; sister Christine (Carlo) Marotta of Berlin; Lisa (Michael) Vumback of Newington and six nieces and nephews: Matthew, Kaitlyn, Benjamin, Steven, Anna and Ella. Nick will also be missed by his furry companions MiMi, Sophie and Sparky. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Bruno and Marie Oskinis, and John and Sarah Salerni.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt Street, New Britain. Funeral services for Nicholas will begin on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1755 Stanley St, New Britain, CT 06053. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. To share a memory with his family, please visit us at www.duksa.net.
