Simeon Joseph Morin Jr., 87, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, September 25, 2023. The obituary for this family patriarch will fall short of capturing the greatness of this amazing man. He was born to Clara Damboise and Simeon Joseph Morin on February 26, 1936 in Caribou, Maine.
The last surviving sibling, he was one of fourteen children including eight brothers, one sister, three half- brothers, and a stepsister who grew up on a potato farm. After losing his father at the age of ten he and his siblings took on the challenge of helping their mother keep the farm afloat. Following his brothers who learned ironworking skills at Loring Air Base in Limestone, Maine, they applied their reputation as hard workers and built buildings up and down the eastern seaboard. They started their own steel construction business, Morin Erection in 1959. Their continued success led to buying and relocating a
steel panel fabrication mill to Bristol, Connecticut. Morin Building Products was established in 1967.
The company produced and erected industrial metal panels for projects across the country and beyond.
Their projects included those for large US companies like General Motors, Caterpillar Tractor, and power plants for many large utility companies. The Morin name lives on and has expanded under the Kingspan Corporation with fabrication plants in Bristol, CT, Fontana, CA and Deland, FL. Simeon married Yolande Mary Levesque of Van Buren, Maine in 1956. They raised six children in Bristol.
Simeon was a compassionate person. They invited many family members, friends and those in need intot heir home, always demonstrating love in action. No matter what the situation they were generous to many, sharing the fruits of their success with those who were in need.
The family has many cherished memories of their time at their chalet in Wilmington, Vermont inviting family and friends to enjoy winter sports and card games late into the night.
Simeon taught his children and many others the value of hard work and perseverance. A man of faith he loved talking about the mass sermons at Sunday dinners. He was one of the original members of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church parish. His children attended St Paul Catholic High School. Over the years, he was a supporter of the church, the school and many of the sports programs, generously donating funds and even building steel goals posts for the soccer team.
Simeon is survived by his wife Yolande, six children and their spouses, Michael and Dianne of Bow, NH, Gary and Sue of Southington, Cheryl and Jim Chard of Burlington, Lisa and Nathan Sprague of Portland, ME, Carl and Elize of Surf City, NC, and Anthony and Susie Newman of Bristol. He is survived by fifteen grandchildren; Matthew Morin, Joshua Morin, Cole Morin, Jonathan Morin, Kassidy Gokey, Ashley Dinella, Wesley Morin, Derek Chard, Cameron Sprague, Allyson Morin, Calvin Sprague, Spencer Morin, Reid Morin, Austin Morin and Simeon Morin.
