In Fond Remembrance of Walter Lee Robinson Jr.
It is with profound sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Walter (Rooster) Lee Robinson Jr., aged 76, of Newport on January 11, 2024.
He worked many years at BASF.
Born on June 5, 1947, Walter was a cherished spouse, parent, and sibling, deeply loved by his family and friends. His impact on the lives of many was marked by his humor, engaging storytelling, and unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand.
Walter was a devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he served as superintendent of Sunday school and served as a trustee. His leisure time was filled with joy through his passion for watching racing events, including NASCAR and drag racing, and he was also a fan of the San Francisco 49ers. All who had the privilege of knowing him will keenly feel the void left by his absence.
Walter is survived by his son, John Robinson, and stepson, Christopher Stewart. He leaves behind his sisters, Frances Robinson of Newport and Christine Robinson (Aubrey) of Georgia, along with nieces Marie (Robinson) Maddox of Knoxville, Renee (Barnes) Thames of Tampa, Florida, Stacey Dockery (Paul) of Knoxville, and a multitude of great and great-great nieces and nephews who will forever hold dear the memories they shared. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nanette Robinson, and his parents, Walter Lee Robinson and Anna Sue Robinson. Special mentions go to Carrie Peak, Charles Stewart, and Ricky Stewart, with heartfelt gratitude extended to the Tennova Newport Convalescent Center.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2024, with funeral service following at 4 p.m. in Manes Funeral Home chapel to honor and celebrate Walter's life. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend.
