WESTVILLE - David A. Christian Sr., 89, of Westville passed away Wednesday night (Aug. 14, 2024) at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, Danville.
David was born in Bowling Green, Ky., the son of William and Margaret (Nelson) Christian Jr. David married the love of his life, Christin Chrostowski, on Sept. 2, 1961. They would have celebrated 63 years together this year.
David leaves behind his two sons, David A. (Sharon) Christian Jr. and John C. (Tricia) Christian; six grandchildren, Machaela, Kaitlynn, Camryn, Alyssa, Zachary and Jace; three great-grandchildren, Ellie Mae, Arlo and Emerson; and one brother, Frank (Judy) Christian.
David was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Margeret "Sissy" Hein; one brother, William Christian III; and his nephews, Michael Christian and Jack and Jay Hein.
David went to work on the railroad at the age of 18, retired from there, and went to work at the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. David was known to have a great sense of humor and a big smile on his face. He enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and loved to help plant trees. His love for kids was known by all, and he will be missed by all his family.
The rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Sunset's Westville Chapel, 414 S. State St., Westville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home following the rosary. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westville, followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Danville.
Memorial donations may be given in David's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
