CHAMPAIGN - Elinor (Eddie) Anne Miebach (Silver), of Champaign-Urbana, passed away on Sept. 20, 2024, of natural causes. She was 92 years of age at passing. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her memory will always be in our hearts.
Elinor was born on Feb. 19, 1932, to John A. Silver and Margaret G. Terry in Urbana. She grew up with her two brothers, John T. Silver (Margie) and Steve Silver (Patti). She graduated from Urbana High School and attended Illinois Commercial College, Parkland College, and Champaign Adult Education with a focus on art and design.
Elinor is survived by her children, Mike Dowling (Lynn), Katherine Babiniec (Dennis-deceased), and Ellen Dowling (Douglas Mott) and stepchildren Nancy Miebach, Kenneth Miebach-deceased (Paula) and Debi Fuller (Walt). Her grandchildren Alex Babiniec (Amanda), Sean Babiniec (Ashley) and Emma Dowling (Peter Scheinman), step-grandchildren David Garrett (Raphaella), Dustin Lawrence (Keschia), Penny Jordan, and Tracy Burt, and numerous great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Paul, her brother John, her son-in-law Dennis and her stepson Kenneth.
Elinor worked for her father, John A. Silver, at the Silver Grain and Seed Company in Urbana. She and her first husband, Bill, owned and ran Twin City Marine at Five Points in Urbana. She went on to work for the University of Illinois: Housing and Central Foods before eventually working at the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District, at which she eventually retired. She appreciated the good people she worked with over the years and kept in contact with many of them.
Elinor married Charles William Dowling (Bill) in 1951. They divorced in 1968. She married Paul Miebach Jr. in 1976.
Elinor loved sharing her passions of the outdoors, reading, and art, but her greatest passion was sharing life with her family and friends. She loved hosting holiday dinners for her family where everyone would cook together, eat, laugh and play cards. In her younger years, she enjoyed ice skating, boating, and fishing. She and Paul enjoyed many trips to their home in Lake of the Ozarks where she enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. Elinor also was an avid pet lover.
The family of Elinor Miebach would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff of ClarkLindsey's Greenhouse West for their compassionate care, support and love.

May God bless all of the Dowling family today as they say goodbye to Eddie. When I think of Eddie, I think of her smiling and laughing, which was a lot considering she was often in pain in her later years. May you be comforted by the many memories of good times spent together. May she rest in peace.

One of my favorite memories of Elinor is when she told the story of how she and Paul found Cody and brought him home. She said he was following them and she said, "There was no way that we were leaving without him." Elinor was also special to me because she was so sweet to my son, Michael. She bought special donuts for him because she knew he liked them. I will always think of her on the Fourth of July, because sometimes Ellen's girlfriends were in town for the celebration, and we spent time with her. And I am forever grateful that Elinor gave birth to my beautiful friend Ellen on the Fourth of July. I am so happy Elinor was a bright spot on this earth for her family and friends. I will miss her.

I´ll always fondly remember Fourth of July and Aunt Ellen´s birthday celebrations at grandmas house. Walking to the field to watch the fireworks-so close that they rattled my chest-and fireflies that kept the show going. I´ll always remember her warmth, calm nature, sweet voice, and mannerisms: "Yeaaww," for "yeah," "oh golly," etc.
I´m so happy Peter and our family were able to visit her last October. We had a great time going on a nature walk/roll, and driving to the park to eat Steak and Shake. My last memory of her was when my Dad and I realized we forgot to hand off some ice cream to her, so we went back and dropped off to her room. She was happily devouring it as we left. Our family knows how to eat well!
