Janet Cox Obituary

URBANA - Janet Lee Cox, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

She was born April 19, 1934, in Pontiac and was preceded in death by her mother, Opal Mae Murrey; her father, James Brumfield; her sister, Billie Dove Cottrill; and two sons, Max and Matthew Cox.

Janet graduated from Pontiac High School in 1952. She worked as a telephone switchboard operator (Pontiac), a waitress at the Urbana-Lincoln Hotel (now the Hotel Royer, Urbana), and a machinist at Kraft Foods (Champaign).

She was a devout Jehovah's Witness, baptized in March 1966. She was a member of congregations in Champaign, Monticello and Urbana through the course of her adult life. She enjoyed and valued the support and fellowship of her Jehovah's Witness community.

Janet is survived by three living children, Brianna Adams of Temple, Texas, Christine (Philip) Jewell of Earlysville, Va., and Daniel (Pattie) Cox of Round Lake; eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Mason, Emma, Lauren, Allyson, Geena, James and Violet; and one great-granddaughter, Callan.

She was devoted to her family and will be greatly missed.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
