BEMENT - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Josh Daniel Scott, who left us unexpectedly on Monday (Jan. 27, 2025) at the age of 47.
Born on Aug. 12, 1977, Josh was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. His sudden passing leaves a profound void in the lives of his family, friends and all who knew him. Josh cherished time spent with his loved ones.
Surviving are his parents, Chett and Sandy Scott of Bement; and siblings, William Striegel of Monticello, Megan (Alex) Greene of Monticello, Sarah (Quint) Shambaugh of Monticello and Michael (Krista) Scott of Lovington. Josh was also a proud uncle to Maddy, Gracie, Jack, Lucy, Peyton, Teddy, Mia and Nora. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will always hold him close in their hearts.
Josh was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Striegel; as well as his maternal grandparents, Bob and Mary Catlin; and paternal grandparents, Chester and Betty Scott.
Throughout his years as a Monticello Sage, Josh was an accomplished athlete, participating in baseball, wrestling and track and field. Above all else, his heart belonged to Monticello Sages football, a passion he carried with him throughout his life. Whether playing on the field or cheering from the sidelines, Josh's love for Sages football was unwavering.
Josh's family and friends will remember him for his witty sense of humor, infectious laugh and contagious smile. Now, Josh is free, listening to The Doors, running with the wind in his hair, at peace and surrounded in heaven by the music and people he loved. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of Josh's life will be on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Monarch Events Center, Monticello, from 1 to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Monticello Athletic Boosters Club, 1 Sage Drive, Monticello, IL 61856. Condolences may be sent to the family at mackey-wrightfuneralhome.com.
