Phyllis Webster Obituary

URBANA - Phyllis Ann "Mimi" Webster, 69, of Urbana died Tuesday morning, July 25, 2023, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Phyllis was born Jan, 10, 1954, in Paris, Ill., a daughter of Alexander "Bud" and Martha Quillen Hance.

Mimi is survived by her mother, Martha Quillen Hance; two sisters, Sharon Koester, Kay (Charlie) Simpson and Nancy (Ernie) Richards; a daughter, Daphne Maurer (Gregory Frasure); four grandchildren, Nicholas Maurer, Dylan Schick, Elise Maurer and Jacob Schick; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alexander "Bud" Hance.

Phyllis was vibrant and intelligent, and nothing gave her more pleasure than helping others achieve their goals in life. Phyllis starting her banking career in the early 1980s and worked passionately to help thousands of people buy their dream homes until her retirement on March 4, 2023. She wore many hats during her banking career and held the position of regional president for many years.

However, Phyllis was never satisfied with just one task. She volunteered in the 1990s to help individuals that had not graduated from high school gain their GEDs. Again, she felt a need to do more for people and earned her master's degree in social work and became a Licensed Social Worker. While still working at the bank, Phyllis worked part-time in mental health at Elliott Counseling. Upon her retirement from First Mid, she started working full-time as a counselor at Carle Health.

Phyllis was instrumental in the great success of the "Dancing With the CU Stars" fundraiser in Champaign. Her commitment to her community and her passion for dancing helped raise more than $1 million for the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club. She was also a big part of the success of the Altrusa Club's Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Paris and was the celebrity dancer for many.

When her first grandchild was born, she became known to everyone as "Mimi." Her love for her grandchildren was endless, and she loved spending time with them and going to all of their events. That love also extended to spending time with her close family. Every Sunday was church, lunch and dessert on her mother's porch.

Mimi traveled extensively with her friends over many continents. She and her friends danced and laughed from the tip of Argentina to the furthest edge of Japan. She believed that there was always more knowledge, more experiences and more relationships to discover.

Phyllis was a member of Hume Christian Church in Hume.

At her request, no formal visitation or services are being held. A celebration of life will be announced in the future.

Memorial donations may be made to Hume Christian Church or charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered at morganmemorialhome.com.

Thinking of Phyllis today. We will always miss having her with us at our girls' luncheons and when our '72 classmates gather. She was a very dear friend.

I had the great pleasure of working with Phyllis for 5 years. She was nothing less than a true professional and was very thoughtful in her actions. She had the skill to balance the interests of all parties to come to the best decision. Hearing of this loss was a shock, since Phyllis was someone who lived a full life. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends. She will be missed by many.

Phyllis was extremely generous with her time while helping plan and organize a Dancing With the Stars event to raise funds for Paris´s Imagination Library. She was a joy to work with and I am so sorry to hear this unbelievable news. Our area has lost a true leader.

Mimi Was a member of our Jazzercise group for many years. She had not come to class recently.

She hosted at least one Jazzercise Christmas party at her home several years ago. Mimi was so gracious to us and we enjoyed being with her.

I am so sorry for your loss.
