Dahvie Epstein Obituary

Dahvie Livingston (Travis) Epstein passed away on August 8, 2017 in Ormand Beach, FL at the age of 92. Dahvie grew up in Tulsa, OK, where her dad, Max Travis, was an oil wildcatter and her mom Rhea Travis was a fine pianist. She met the love of her life, Jerome Epstein, while entertaining WWII troops in Texas for the USO and Jerry was in training for the Army-Air Force. They made their life and their three sons, Joe, Fred and George in the NY metropolitan area before retiring to Florida 25 years ago. Dahvie was not the typical 1950's mom. She took her boys on vacation, while Jerry was working, by loading everyone in the car and driving in random directions until finding an interesting place to visit. Dahvie helped run political campaigns. She was an entrepreneur, selling women's clothes from her Dressmobile and then a store a block from her home in Harrington Park, NJ. Dahvie's unique business model was to put on fashion shows for women's clubs throughout northern NJ, using the club members as the models and then selling the outfits at the end of the show. The popularity of those shows was sealed by the fact that the entire show was narrated in rhyme, written and spoken by Dahvie, and including references to the personal lives of the models as well as the clothes. She can still be seen reading poetry about the experience of aging on her life on YouTube. The excitement she added to people's lives is demonstrated by the army of warm and wonderful friends she made after moving to Florida. When Jerry passed away nine years earlier, they helped fill her life with social events and more than a small amount of playing the slots. Dahvie left behind a legacy of her boys, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a model for life filled with energy, creativity and excitement. Arrangements are by Louis Suburban Chapel, Fair Lawn, NJ.

Dahvie was one of the most honest and real people I've ever met. What you saw is definitely what you got. She was a breath of fresh air. I am proud to have known her and was honored to share my birthday with her. She will be missed a great deal. - Sharon Mitchell

Dear ones,Some of my best times in Harrington Park were with your mom....I used to assist her with the fashion shows....she had such a zest for life and a time in my life I will always remember...we lost touch over the years but she is one lady I've never forgotten....she was so much fun but perhaps one of the most brilliant woman I've ever known...sense of humor beyond reproach! Her presence shall be missed. My sympathies to you all.Sue Morgan
