Gary Gordon Goad

Gary Goad Obituary

Gary Gordon Goad, 70, of Ormond Beach, Fla., formerly of Boonville, Ind., went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Gary passed away at home with his loving family around him on July 6, 2008. He was a graduate of Boonville High School class of 1955. He attended Evansville College (U of E) and received a BA in Marketing/Management in 1962. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Gary went on to be a restaurant entrepreneur in the late 60's and 70's. He moved to Ormond Beach, Fla., in 1978 where he had three more family-owned restaurants. The most glorious time of his life however was when he was born again in Christ and was saved by the grace of God through the blood of Jesus Christ at the First Baptist Church of Ormond Beach where he served as a deacon until he was called to be a "messenger of Jesus Christ." Gary then attended the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983 where he received a Master's of Divinity in 1986 and became an ordained Southern Baptist minister. Gary moved back to Ormond Beach where he served as pastor of three churches during 1987 through 2005. He retired from the ministry in February of 2005 due to his illness. Gary believed in the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and touched so many lives by preaching the Word of God through the Holy Scriptures. His true desire in life was to win souls for Christ and to care for those in need which he did with great love and compassion. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Henry and Loraine Goad of Boonville, Ind. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years and caregiver Linda (Ackerman) Goad; two sisters Pat Rogers (John) of Louisville, Ky., Nancy Tallman (Mike) of Huntsville, Ala.; one brother, Steve Goad of Huntsville, Texas; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jim and Pam Nelson of Petersburg, Ind.; three daughters, Kelley Winsett of Boonville, Ind., Jan Collins (Mitch) of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Libby Rinehart (Kevin) of Haubstadt Ind.; four grandchildren, Alisha Price (Adam) of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Ashley Winsett of Evansville, Ind., Andy Collins of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Arika Winsett of Austin, Texas, three great-grandchildren, Lexy, Alivia and Ella; and one niece, four nephews and his loving dog, Mattie. Gary was a member of Riverbend Community Church where he previously pastored the senior ministry. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Riverbend Community Church, 2080 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Services will be held at Riverbend Community Church Wed. July 9, at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 a.m. until service at 1:00 p.m. at the church.

Linda and Girls,
I am so sorry to hear about Gary. I will always remember the good times we all had at Mr. G's. Those were certainly the good ol days. I know he is in a better place and has no more pain. We know that he is with our Father in Heaven and Henry and Lorraine. My what a time they are probably having right now. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers the days ahead. Linda & girls,

I am so sorry for your loss. Linda, you and Gary taught so many young adults that worked for you values that have been treasured through life. You taught responsibility, to respect others, and to work hard.
I appreciate everything the two of you did for me. Boonville has never been the same since you left.

Just remember your heavenly angel will still protect and guide you through the rest of your life until you are joined again.

Thank you for the best years of my life being employed at Mr. G's. I loved working there with the two of you and still miss that place today.

My sympathy extends to the Goad family. My fondest memories of Gary are "Mr. G's" and how he was a friend and mentor to many of us while we were Boonville High School students. Always remember, "the celebration of life continues with the memories of those we have loved.

Linda & Family,

Pastor Gary doesn't have to suffer anymore and is in a better place with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

My wife (Linda) and I were married by Pastor Gary and he has been over the years a big part of our family especially preaching at Calvary Baptist Church.

My Mom (Betty) who is the choir director and my dad (Ron) a deacon love Gary and Linda so much along with the rest of the congregation.

After Pastor Gary & Linda left Calvary and started attending Riverbend Community Church my wife and I met them again and we stayed close...he had numerous ministries including participating in the "Passion Play" and even preached some which was such a joy.

We always shared our Middle East adventures...although he & Linda had a great time...mine was a little different... but it was always very interesting to talk about the different cultures and where Jesus Christ grew up.

Pastor Gary came back to Calvary again with his new reformed theology and I Praise God he was able to preach the teachings he grasped at Riverbend which are so important to understand with our individual walks these days.

Linda...we love you and your wonderful family and I am thankful that we were able to see and pray with Pastor Gary and family one more time while I was back at home last weekend.

Linda and Family,

Our hearts rejoice, with you, at the home going of our dear brother in Christ, Gary. I trust that this time of sadness is quickly transformed into a glorious celebration. The fact that our God keeps His promises provides us certainty for today and the expectation of the resurrection to come.

For so many years your Family has been such a blessing to us. We trust that in the near future we will be able to embrace you personally and share more intimately our sincere love. May our Lord keep you and bless you and make His face shine upon you always.

I am saddened at the loss of Bro. Gary Goad. I attended Calvary Baptist Church before and during his time as pastor there. I also miss going to "Gary's Cookout" and "Gary's Chicken & Catfish". Those were good times indeed. I knew his health was failing over the years and I pray he is released from his pain and sitting happily in Heaven with Jesus at this time.
