JOSHUA ALLEN Obituary

Joshua Brett Allen, (24), of DeLeon Springs, passed away in Aspen, Colorado on February 26, 2012. He was born in Winter Park on August 29, 1987 and spent most of his life residing in West Volusia County. Joshua graduated summa cum laude from T. Dewitt Taylor High School in 2005. In 2010, Joshua graduated cum laude at the University of Florida in civil and coastal engineering. Joshua's hard work ethic led him to a successful career in engineering at PCL. He was always willing to learn and explore new areas in his field. Not only was he passionate about his career, he was also very active in life. His interests included music, Gator football, and hockey. Joshua enjoyed all areas of sports from golf, snowboarding and motorcycle riding to working out, paint-balling with friends, and relaxing at the beach with them. He fully embodied the spirit of living life to the fullest. Joshua had a sense of humor that brightened every day and his inviting smile welcomed everyone with kindness. There was never a dull moment when you were with him, and he enjoyed spending all his free time with his family and friends. His enthusiasm for life drove him to better his life and the lives of his friends and family. Josh was kind, generous, gentle, and always the first to put himself second for anyone he cared about. His untainted heart and childlike spirit was mixed with the responsibility and maturity beyond his years. Although the sky was his limit, he always stopped to help those around him. He will forever be missed by all those he left behind. He is survived by his parents Wayne and Alita Allen of DeLeon Springs; grandparents Pearl and Robert Wilson of DeLeon Springs and Ursula Schreck of DeLand; brother Jonathan N. Allen & Kendall Robinson of Pierson; sister Jonica J. Allen of DeLeon Springs; girlfriend Loris Rasmussen of Tampa; best friend Frank Crimi of DeLand; uncles John C. & Noelle Allen of DeLeon Springs, Roman & Tina Schreck of Clarksville GA and Joel Schreck of DeLand; aunts Ann & Gary Spence of Lynnville, TN, Tammy Schreck of Daytona Beach and Karen & Brent Dorsey of DeLand; cousins Austin and Carter Allen of DeLeon Springs, Carol and Colleen Spence of Lynville, TN, Brianna & Donny Anders of Winter Garden, Larissa & Damien Nielson of Casselberry, Rachel Schreck of FT Lauderdale, Daniella & Joshua Koontz of DeLand; as well as second cousins Lillian, Emma and Eisley Koontz and Teagan, Kelby and Harper Anders. Dear Allen Family: I wish to add my condolences and heartfelt wishes to you on Josh's passing. Josh was a student in the first steel design class I taught at UF - he was part of a group of bright, confident students who always studied hard but they lived full lives filled with laughter and concern for each other. This was a special class to me. Joshua is a true Gator and I speak for the entire faculty in saying we were very sad to hear of his this tragic loss. Though short, his life will not be forgotten for the joy he brought to others.

My condolences go to the Allen family. I had the pleasure of knowing Josh while studying at UF, and we continued to remain close friends after graduation. I will always remember him and keep his memory alive in my heart. I will continue to pray for your family during this difficult time.

My dear nephew...the loss we feel is beyond words. How can words describe how we feel. I read this and have it hanging in my house and it so applys to you...this is for you. "Life is not measured by the anount of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away". You had many of those moments and lived a full 24 years, not long enfough but it gives me some comfort it was a life full of moments. Love you josh....your aunt tammy.
