Leslie Gibbs Obituary

Leslie "Gus" Gibbs
January 31, 2020
January 31, 2020 is a sad day for DeLand and a sad day for Stetson University as we announce the sudden passing of Leslie "Gus" Gibbs. Gus was a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend to all and he will be missed in our community. He owned and operated Gibbs for Men in DeLand for over 40 years before retiring but his love was for basketball, Stetson University, and his Georgia Bulldogs. Gus and Arlene opened their home to many young men over the years to assist them with temporary housing as they did not know a stranger. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 30 years Arlene; sister, Marcia Gibbs Berman; sister in law's Renee & Rick Janovitz, Suzy & Rick Goldman and Holly & Mark Emas; niece Vicki Berman; nephews Reid Berman, Bradley Berman and wife Angie Karran, and Melissa Duncan. He is predeceased by his parents David and Doris Gibbs. A celebration of a life well lived will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 2:00 pm in the Edmunds Center at Stetson University. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Stetson University Men's Basketball, C/O President's Office, 421 North Woodland Blvd., DeLand, FL 32723.

Gus and I were fraternity brothers at UGA.....I always enjoyed being with him and around him...he was an upbeat guy....one year we played a year long game of gin with no payout until the school year was done....I don't remember who came out ahead, but we wre pretty evenly matched. Enjoyed visiting him in Deland a few years ago...even fell in love with a tie he had on display.....bought it and have worn it many times.....he will be missed.....Mike Frank

I just learned of Gus's passing last night. Gus was a huge friend to the Deland High School football. As the head coach from 1993-1996 he was a big part of our success. His faith and support in our program helped us to achieve success. The times I returned to Deland, I always stopped by to see him and talk about "Bulldog" football. Rest in Peace my friend.

A part of my life since day one and a true member of our family. We will miss our "Uncle Gus" dearly. Hearts are broken for sure, but so very grateful for the funny, happy memories that remain. (and there are many!) Much love floating your way, Arlene. Please plan that tour of New England as soon as you are ready...we are ready for you. Sending so much love...I wish we could have been with you. Erin, Mark, Emerson & Garrett Ballou

I have known Gus for over 15 years. He was a client of the CPA firm where I work. I have very fond memories of Gus and will miss his smiling face. My thoughts and prayers go out to Arlene, Marcia and the entire family.
