Theo Potter Obituary

POTTER, THEO (TED) L. Theo (Ted) Potter, 69, passed away January 15th, 2011 at Florida Hospital Oceanside Hospice. Ted was born in Tacoma, Washington, and lived in the Seattle area until moving to Daytona Beach in 1999 to teach at Embry-Riddle, where he was Ground Training Coordinator until his retirement. Aviation was Ted's life, both as a pilot, and a teacher. Ted started flying as a teenager, and flew in many capacities most of his life. He flew for KOMO radio in Seattle for many years as a traffic reporter, keeping Seattle informed, and amused on their commutes. People still laugh and remember his many on-air stunts and antics. While at Embry-Riddle he touched the lives of hundreds of students. He went beyond just being a teacher, he was a friend and a mentor. His former students are scattered all over the world, but many of them still kept in touch, grateful to a man who gave freely of his vast aviation knowledge. In his flying career, he set three aviation world speed records - in one day. There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are very few old, bold pilots; Ted was one of the few. He was a member of Quiet Birdmen. There will be a service at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 216 Orange Avenue in Daytona Beach, Saturday, February 19th at 2 PM. There will be a Celebration of Life afterwards in the Parish Hall, where his friends and loved ones can share their memories of Ted. He leaves behind his loving wife, Lisa; his daughters, Kimberlee (Brad) Buck, Kirstin (William) Korin; his brother, Greg (Sue) Potter; six grandchildren, and his beloved cat, Skeeter. He was predeceased by his son, Todd; and his brother, David. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his name to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Journey's End Animal Sanctuary, or a charity of your choice. He was loved, and will be greatly missed.
