Dean Kelly Obituary

Dean Edward Kelly passed away at his home near Springfield at 5 a.m. April 24, 2006. He faced his illness without fear or complaint, leaving this world peacefully after 78 years of being a cherished son, brother, husband, father and finally a grandpa. The son of James Gregg and Mabel Mae Kelly, he was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska, Jan. 27, 1928. After moving to Niangua, Mo., in 1936, Dean attended Fair Grove High School, graduating in 1947. In October 1949, he was hired as a carry-out by Consumers Markets, eventually reaching the position of District Supervisor. He retired from Consumers in 1993 after 43 years of service. During the Korean War, he experienced combat as a Staff Sergeant with the 160th Infantry of the 40th Division. He and his wife Jane were married May 14, 1961. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane a son, Shannon Edward Kelly and his wife, Sherah Leigh a granddaughter, MacKenna Jane a brother, Clifford and his wife, Mary, Bolivar two sisters, Lucille Poynor, Strafford, and Florence Brown and her husband, John, Marshfield a sister-in-law, Winifred McHan, Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents a brother, Kenneth and a sister, Norma McNeese. Visitation will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Wednesday, April 26, from 6 t o8 p.m. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery with Dr. Charles W. Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers, the fami- ly requests memorials be given to Community Hospices of America, 1465 E. Primrose, Springfield, Mo.
