Harold DeWayne Hemphill

Harold DeWayne Hemphill, age 76 of Springfield, MO passed away February 2, 2016. He was born March 2, 1939 in Madison, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Ethel Milner Hemphill, brothers Orville and Walter, sister Doris Stair and grandson Joshua Mark Hemphill. He is survived by sister Elizabeth Larkin of LaMesa, California, brother Robert Hemphill of Cedar Park, Texas, his wife of 54 years Allena Hemphill of Springfield, MO and his 4 children:

•Darold DeWayne Hemphill and wife Kathy of Hillsborough, NJ

•Darrin Lynn Hemphill and wife Tammy of Williston, TN

•Darick Darnel Hemphill and wife Amanda of Springfield, MO

•Angela LeAnn Spellman and husband Shane of Bejing, China

He is also survived by his ten grandchildren.

Harold was a graduate of Madison High School class of 1958 and the University of Nebraska in Omaha, Nebraska. He was one of the original employees of Federal Express and had a chance to witness their success before moving on to begin his own company with wife Allena in 1987. Harold's new company General Rental Center located in Springfield, MO proved to be a successful and filling aspect of his life. He also enjoyed doing genealogy research, visiting aircraft museums and traveling with his family.

Graveside service will be held Monday, February 8th at 1:00pm at the Blakely Cemetery in Madison, KS. Floral donations can be sent to VanArsdale Funeral Home in Madison, KS. Monetary donations can be sent to either Springfield Public Library (4653 S. Campbell, Springfield, MO 65810 / online yourlibraryfoundation.org) or Madison Historical Society (in care of VanArsdale Funeral Home).
